Querétaro to Quintana Roo

QUERÉTARO
Santiago de Querétaro, or just Querétaro as it’s referred to locally, is a colonial city steeped in Mexican history. The Spanish took control of the city in 1531 and designated it the “third city of New Spain”. It was here where the fathers of Mexico’s Independence Movement met in secret to discuss the overthrow of their Spanish rulers. Querétaro itself is a bright, lively, and very clean city. It’s just 130 miles north-west of Mexico City and is connected by high-speed modern highways. The feel here is Baroque. Take time to browse its churches, its mansions with their graceful balconies, the myriad of tree-lined plazas and the quaint colonial side streets and alleyways.

QUINTANA ROO (STATE)
The Mexican State of Quintana Roo is situated in south eastern Mexico, on the Yucatán Peninsula. Its capital city is Chetumal. Quintana Roo is home to some of Mexico’s most important tourism resorts and islands, including Cancún, Playa del Carmen, Tulum, Isla Mujeres and Cozumel. On February 1, 2015, Quintana Roo officially adopted a new time zone—Mexico’s fourth time zone—to keep its clock time synchronized with the eastern United States in the autumn and winter.

This is a list of the Top 100 cities in Mexico by fixed population, according to the 2020 Mexican National Census.[1]

According to Mexico's National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI), a locality is "any place settled with one or more dwellings, which may or may not be inhabited, and which is known by a name given by law or tradition".[2] Urban localities are those with more than 2,500 residents, which can be designated as cities, villages or towns according to the laws of each state. The National Urban System, compiled by the National Population Council (CONAPO) in 2018, identifies 401 urban localities in Mexico with more than 15,000 residents as "cities".[3]

Only one state (Tlaxcala) has no cities in the Top 100. Mexico City contains all of the federal entity's area, including rural areas with relatively small populations. All of the map links are of the same scale.
