Does grated cheese weigh the same as a block

I always weigh mine then grate it, but you would expect 28grms of block cheese once grated still to weigh 28grms, mmmmmmmmmm think I'll, cut & weigh & grate & weigh mine next time.

I know it sounds like a really silly question - its just my block of cheese seems to be going quicker than I expected it to!! I have always grated it in a tub on the scales but maybe I will not from now one just to be safe.

There's no difference. It only looks more because their is air between the pieces of cheese - and air is free!

If you took your pile of grated cheese and squashed it, you would end up with the shape you started with!

As soon as I get my cheese home I cut it into 28gr or 42gr portions (depending on if it is low fat or regular) then when I need cheese I jsut grab a chunk and KNOW it is the right amount

I do this too.

Sometimes it can be right first time, other times I finish up with loads of "odd bits"

I always grate the whole block into 42g portions (as soon as I open the packet), bag them up and stick them in the freezer. This way it's portion controlled and I've got it on hand when I need it. I find that when I need cheese if it's not already portioned up I'll end up grating more than 42g and eating what looks about right .
My OH doesn't like cheese (I just don't understand this!!!!) and don't eat it that often anymore so it helps to have it ready and waiting when I need it .

I'd never thought about the difference between weighing before or after you grate it though, interesting to think about!

Hi, I'm new to slimming world and live overseas so I'm muddling through on my own! With regards to the cheese, is it 42g of low fat and 28g of regular? I've just bought fat free so how much would I have? looks like rubber but I'll give it a whirl!!! Also is that a HEA? Had 350ml of skimmed milk already today.

42grms of low fat cheese is a hexa on EE. But you are only allowed one hexa on EE. So if you have already had your hexa (milk) you will have to syn the cheese.

Or if you are doing Red/Green days you can have 2 hexa's & 2 hexb's

Argos sell some digital scales for £9.99 - I really wouldn't be without mine.

I got some "diet" scales from wilkos when I started, they were about £3 or £4 and show each gram individually and have been one of my best SW related bargains. I'm thinking about saving up for some electronic ones now, where you can put your own bowl on and reset to 0 etc.

I buy Asda pre sliced cheddar. It's already sliced into 28g slices.

If you buy the full fat stuff you get one obv, but reduced fat just have one and a half slices.

I have scales but sometimes I like the gram and go option.

I was buying that too - then realised i could easily cope with 28g for almost all situations - except maybe burgers. Plus i save money as a block of cheese goes alot further now!

This sounded like which is the heaviest a ton of feathers or a ton of bricks lol
