Dragon Age 2 console commands mod

Dragon Age 2 was probably one of the most divisive games of all time. Coming hot on the heels of the insanely successful initial installment, the reduced scope and lack of customizability of the main characters made a lot of fans unhappy. Of course, these issues were eventually fixed in many ways by Dragon Age Inquisition, but that doesn’t mean that people don’t still want to enjoy DA2 just as much. Having said that, the only real way to work around the parts of the game that you don’t like is to rely on console commands.

Dragon Age 2 console commands can help you become all-powerful, change the way that NPCs interact with you, and even work around broken quests or game-killing bugs. Check out this definitive list of all the best console commands available for Dragon Age 2.

How to Open the Command Console

You’ll have to make some alterations to the game’s executable file before you can access the console in-game. The code you’ll need is found below, but how you use it changes depending on whether you’re playing the Steam version or some other version of the game. On Steam, right-click the game, select properties, then enter the code below into the Launch Options field. If you’re using EA Origin, you can right-click the game, select Game Properties, and enter the code into the Command Line Arguments field instead.

If you have a DRM-free version of the game, you can simply find the executable itself, then right-click and Create a Shortcut to the game. Now, right-click the shortcut and select properties. In the Target field, leave a space after the last piece of text, then enter the code below to activate the console. Remember, the console will only work if you launch the game from your new shortcut. One final note to watch out for is the fact that the console is completely invisible, so you’re gonna have some trial and error here.

Dragon Age 2 Quest Debug Console Commands

As well as having some slightly buggy companions, Dragon Age 2 has a nasty habit of locking you into certain situations where you can’t continue on with your mission. Luckily, there are also plenty of commands that will let you get yourself out of a bunch of sticky situations. We’ve put together the 3 most common bugs and how you can fix them with console commands.

Fools Rush In Quest – Act 1

Sometimes in the Act 1 Quest ‘Fools Rush in’, after taking the letter from the mercenary’s body, you won’t be able to get into the chantry to carry on the quest. Open up Isabela’s debug menu, select Plot > Fools Rush In > Plot Point > Hayden Encounter. Much like the companion quest for Isabela, you’ll miss a bit of dialogue, but it’s worth it to carry on with the quest.

Merill’s Companion Quest – Act 3

Merill’s questline is slightly bugged, and sometimes when you visit her at her house a cutscene starts immediately, preventing you from getting her companion quest later on. If you use Merill’s debug menu from the list above, select Main Quest > Act 3 > 1 Start Merill Notify. This will make it possible to speak to Merill and complete her companion quest.

Isabela’s Companion Quest – Act 3

If you can’t activate Isabela’s companion quest in the Hawke mansion during act 3, you can use her debug menu to sort it out. In her menu, select Plot > No rest For the Wicked Act 3 > Jump to Plot Point > First Velasco Encounter. While you will miss out on a few dialogue options, you’ll at least be able to start the quest properly.
