Great British Baking Show new season

It's time to get our baking on! The Great British Baking Show is officially coming back for a brand-new season, and fans couldn't be happier with the big news.

The hit food competition series recently announced that 12 new amateur bakers would descend upon the tent starting September 13 in the U.K. According to TVLine, the 10-episode season will have the competitors focusing on a series of challenges set by longtime judges Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith. With comedians Noel Fielding and Matt Lucas back as hosts, one contestant will be awarded Star Baker each week while one will be sent packing. At the end of the season, fans will find out who truly is the best amateur baker in the U.K.

"Say hello to the class of 2022," the show's official account wrote on Instagram. "The new series of The Great British Bake Off starts Tuesday 13th September at 8pm on Channel 4. #GBBO."

Since The Great British Baking Show is well-loved by fans worldwide, it's no surprise how the announcement of an all-new season quickly got everyone excited. In fact, competitors from past seasons immediately rushed to the comments section to give the new bakers support as they work their way through the challenges.

"Welcome to the bake off fam! Can’t wait to see what you can all do and watch the fun you have in the tent ⛺️🍰😀 We’re supporting you all the way!" 2020 winner Peter Sawkins wrote on Instagram. "Ready to have your life turned up-side-down like a pineapple cake? Welcome, all! Can’t wait to meet you!" 2021 champion Giuseppe Dell'Anno replied as well. 2019 competitor Alice Fevronia shared how thrilled she was to see the new season, commenting, "Welcome to the new bakers, can’t wait to watch you all 🙌❤️."

As exciting as this all is, American fans have one question — how and when they will get the chance to watch The Great British Baking Show. Like in previous years, the new season will air on Netflix every Friday, three days after it airs across the pond. Therefore, American viewers will get to see brand-new episodes starting September 16.

For this week's Bake Off theme, the contestants will take on Bread Week, with pizzas and savoury bread cakes on the menu.

Last week saw the bakers tackle Biscuit Week, and while Maxy impressed and became the second Star Baker of season 13, some of the other contestants crumbled under the pressure.

Maisam became the second contestant to leave Bake Off, while Rebs struggled with her Signature and Showstopper bakes.

Speaking in his RadioTimes.com column, reigning champ Giuseppe Dell'Anno shared advice for Rebs, saying: "Rebs had a couple of stumbles in the first episode, but she seems to be having a hiccup every single bake. It's almost as if she likes to play on the edge. She smashed the Technical Challenge yesterday with her garibaldi biscuits, which is what I believe saved her. But I think she needs to get her act together or one of those hiccups might be one too many. "

Following his win, Giuseppe said: "There are no words, I am speechless for once. All I can think of is the reaction from my mum and dad. The fact is that everything I have done to deserve this comes from his heritage, it’s the best thank you note I can possibly send him.

"He is going through a very bad time healthwise, so I think this is going to be a great boost. I don’t say often or lightly that I am proud of what I do, but in this case I am really proud of what I have done. It’s unbelievable!"
