Apple Watch backups happen automatically and are saved on the iPhone your Apple Watch is paired with. However, there’s no place in Settings to manually back up your Apple Watch or see when the last automatic backup was. Read on for how to make sure your Apple Watch is backed up and you’re all set to upgrade to your new one. If you’re upgrading to a new iPhone 14 (or any other new model), you’ll need to take care of that first.
Apple notes that these items are not included with Apple Watch backups: Bluetooth pairings, credit or debit cards used for Apple Pay, Apple Watch passcode, and Messages. Tap Apps & Data and Settings to see how Express Setup will configure your new watch. Then tap Continue. If you want to choose how your new watch is set up, tap Customize Settings. Then choose a backup from another previous Apple Watch to restore.

Keep your Apple Watch and paired iPhone close together to make sure that they're in range. On your iPhone, make sure that Airplane Mode is off and that Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are on. To check, open Control Center.
Where is the I icon on the Apple Watch for pairing?You'll see the i icon in the lower-right corner of the Apple Watch during the pairing process. First, you'll tap Start Pairing on the watch to guide you through an automatic pairing. However, if the automatic process is not working, tap the i icon to manually pair your iPhone and watch.
