Eggs are amazing. The whites, called claras in Spanish and the yolks, or yemas in Spanish, are rich in nutrients, proteins, vitamins and minerals. Also, the yolk contains cholesterol, vitamins D and E, and essential fatty acids that are great for the body.

5 Foods That Taste Better with an Egg!

1. La pizza con huevo

If you love pizza, and you love eggs, then you’ll love la pizza con huevo (Pizza with egg). The only thing you have to do to take your pizza to a whole new level and make it more trendy is to take your pizza out of the oven a few minutes before it is completely done and crack some eggs over it as another topping. Put your pizza back into the oven for another 5 minutes to ensure the eggs are thoroughly cooked. My advice? Try to keep the yolk a little bit undercooked to give some extra flavor and texture to your pizza as you bite into it.

2. La sopa ramen con huevo

Ramen is a cheap food option that you prepare in minutes, although it’s not the healthiest option nor is it the most fulfilling dish you can eat. However, if you add an egg to it, you morph it into something delicious that will leave you satisfied. Try adding one of the following types of egg to your ramen soup:

  • Un huevo frito
  • Un huevo pochado
  • Un huevo duro

Additions like soy sauce, sesame oil, minced onion, and garlic salt make this an exquisite, affordable dinner any time!

3. La hamburguesa con huevo

Burgers are the most versatile foods out there! They can go from simple—like a typical cheeseburger—to a more complicated dish, like those “monster” burgers that include several kinds of cheese, two or three hamburguers, onion rings, some kind of sauce, bacon and layers of vegetables!

So adding an egg to a burger doesn’t sound too crazy, right?

In Guatemala, we have a famous hamburger called el Torito, which means “little bull.” It’s a giant, piping hot burger whose signature is thick, melty cheese and a big fried egg on top of the burger patty. It’s a most delicious example of how an egg can take your burger to the next level. If you make it to Guatemala during your next trip to Latin America, try it!

If you’d rather skip the plane ride, next time you make a burger at home, slip un huevo estrellado into it. Be sure to fry it up in the same grill you use for the meat, which will give it a smoky, meaty taste that pairs well with everything else in the burger.

6. Los Huevos revueltos

Los huevo revueltos are probably the easiest preparation of an egg in Spanish. To please your palate with your scrambled eggs, try this easy recipe that will make them fluffy and full of flavor!

2 huevos
1 cucharadita de mantequilla
1 pizca de sal
Pimienta al gusto
Tomate picado (opcional)

2 eggs
1 teaspoon of butter
1 pinch of salt
Pepper to taste
Chopped tomato (optional)
Chopped onion (optional)

Instructions:

Heat a skillet over medium-high heat and put the teaspoon of butter to melt. As the butter melts, beat the eggs with a fork in a deep plate. The trick is that when the butter is completely melted, carefully pour the eggs in the pan. Do not stir them for 15-20 seconds, then add salt, pepper, tomato, and onion and stir the mixture a few times with a spatula. Always move it toward the center of the pan. Turn off the heat before the eggs are entirely dry, and they will finish cooking through the residual heat, giving them a soft and fluffy texture (without getting rubbery).
