The JP379BB is a fantastic quality instrument suitable for pro players who are looking for a large bore Contrabass tuba to play in orchestras. The tuba would also fit in well in concert bands and wind bands if the tuba part was for a larger instrument. Created in collaboration with Paul Riggett of Sterling Brass, the JP379 represents a fusion of professional level Sterling components and design with the affordability and durability normally associated with the JP brand. The JP278 BBb tuba is an ideal instrument for an intermediate player all the way up to a pro player looking for a top quality instrument for a fraction of the price of the top level instruments. Featuring the build quality and components usually found on more expensive instruments, the JP278 represents the perfect balance between performance and affordability. greenbean wrote:... Am I right in thinking these are ballpark estimates? And that you never actually used a scale?... Circumstances can distort perception. If you had asked me right after the one time ...thankfully... I had the "opportunity" to march in the Rose Parade, I would have told you my Conn sousaphone came in at, oh, 600, maybe 700 pounds.Miraphone 191 4-valve Top bort6 valvesPosts: 11195Joined: Wed Sep 22, 2004 11:08 pmLocation: Minneapolis, Minnesota Re: HOW MUCH DOES YOUR TUBA WEIGH?

Post by toobagrowl » Sun Nov 24, 2019 7:37 pm - I 'finished' resurrecting my old Conn 14k this year. It has all parts, and had dent work and solder work done, and lacquer/clear-coating over the old spotty original lacquer. Its a great player Still under 22 lbs for the complete sousa, which is light for a standard 4/4 BBb brass sousa.- Couple weeks ago, I serviced an Amati ABB-321 BBb. It's a small 7/8 ish size BBb tuba with 4 top-action pistons. It only weighed about 13 lbs - My no-name (thought to be B&F, but who knows) Kaiser BBb. It is a very large 5/4+ or 6/4 BBb tuba at 42" tall, with a wide-throated 20" bell. The bell has a very "Yorkbrunner" taper/profile to it. 4 rotors. Valve bore is .850" --- Only 18 lbs.
