1. Warm Water

Warm water is the most natural and gentle way to remove lace glue without alcohol.

But, it also takes more time.

You can follow the steps below:

First, put the warm water (adding a little baking soda is better) into an empty bottle, or a wet towel with warm water.

Second, spray or scrub the water around the glue and hairline. At the same time, you can use a wig brush to rub it gently helping water penetrate glue quickly.

Then, keep water on glue for around 10 minutes. It is wise to wear on your shower cap to prevent water from dropping off.

Lastly, you can try to tear the lace wig apart gently.

Notice: You must remember that the process should be slow! So, don’t rush You should repeat the above steps several times if you can’t get the glue residue off.

2. Oils

Vaseline or emollient oil is also a good option to remove lace wig glue without remover.

Most kinds of oils are efficient to remove glue residues, such as coconut oil, olive oil, tea tree oil, etc.

Similarly, you can wet a washcloth with rubbing oil and rub it into the scalp gently.

Also, keep the oil on glue for some minutes. You can gently massage it.

Then, the oil will soak into the glue and make it easier to remove the wig glue.

Lastly, remember to use a wet towel to wipe the oil out.

Why Does Hand Sanitizer Remove the Wig Glue?

The ingredient.

WHO published the following formulations to guide the large production of hand sanitizers. [1]

Let’s check it.

Formulation 1

Ethanol 80% 8333 mL 80%
Glycerol 1.45% 145 mL 1.45%
Hydrogen peroxide 3% 417 mL 0.125%
Distilled water added to 10000 mL 18.425%

Formulation 2

Glycerol 145 mL 1.45%
Hydrogen peroxide 3% 417 mL 0.125%
Distilled water added to 10000 mL 23.425%

As it shows, the main hand sanitizer ingredient is Ethanol and Isopropyl alcohol.

It’s common sense that alcohol and ethanol can dissolve and remove the adhesive. You can get more information on that from here. [2]

That’s it!

Tips: It doesn’t mean any type of alcohol that can be made for hand sanitizer. According to FDA, only ethanol and isopropyl alcohol are allowed to be hand sanitizer ingredients. So, for your health and safety, make sure to check the alcohol type before using it. [3]

There are 3 main reasons for its popularity: Universality, Convenience, and Safety.

Universality

In COVID-19, you can buy the hand sanitizer from your nearest drugstores in handy. So, hand sanitizer is regarded as a household necessity these days.

That is to say, you needn’t buy any other products to remove the lace wig glue.

It’s a REAL budget-friendly hack!

Convenience

Unlike the water or liquid that usually drops off from your hairline. Hand sanitizers can sit on your lace and scalp in place after putting them on.

Besides, the no-rinse hand sanitizer is more convenient, you don’t have to wash it off like the hair conditioner.

Safety

You must hear of (or feel) the alcohol is very dry. After you use it, It will dry out the hair, even causing breakouts on the skin. Also, some sis’ scalp may be sensitive to strong alcohols.

But, hand sanitizer is more gentle for your skin and scalp. Even though it contains alcohol, it’s not so strong as pure alcohol and not harmful to your health (mentioned above).

Conclusion

For most lace wig beginners, it’s a hard thing to remove their lace wig glues. By our methods above, now you must be pretty confident to get the wig adhesive off.
