M&P 40 quick take down procedure

Hello, new member here. I just received my new M&P 40 pistol and was looking at the take down procedure in the instructions which indicates using the takedown tool and flipping the sear deactivation pin upward, which then allows the slide to be removed from the frame, and this method works fine for removing my slide.&lt;br /&gt; &lt;br /&gt; I saw online that there is a quicker method to remove the slide without using the tool by depressing the trigger (dry fire); the magazine is removed, the slide is opened into a fixed position and the takedown lever is flipped downward, then the slide is closed and while pressing the trigger the slide is supposed to be released for removal. I have tried doing this and I am unable to remove the slide while pressing the trigger. The trigger just seems to depress without engaging the action and therefore the slide doesn't unlatch for removal. Am I doing something wrong, or is there some type of magazine safety that is preventing the trigger to function with the mag removed? Does it have the warning on the slide saying the gun will fire without a magazine?
