Raptors are one of the most iconic Dinosaurs there are, they’re deadly, fast and very smart. Add to that fact that you can ride them in Ark: Survivor Evolved and it’s no wonder that almost every new player is scrambling to tame one as fast as they can. Before you can tame one you’ll have a bunch of materials to collect and then you’ll have to find the raptor. We’ve documented our Raptor taming experience, which should help prepare you for when you head out to get yours. Show Narcotics/ Narco BerriesThe level of raptor you try to tame will have an effect on how much they use in terms of food and Narco, but it’s generally always a good idea to overstock on both. For Raptors lvl 1 – 30 you will need around 20 – 30 Narcotics, or at least 3 times that in Narco Berries. Above level 30 and you can add around 10 more narcotics, but you should probably bring at least 50. FoodThe ideal food for Raptors is of course Prime Meat which will make the taming process go much faster, but since that is in short supply you will probably be primarily using regular raw meat. Depending on the level the amount of meat required will vary a bit, but you should plan on bringing 50 raw meat just to be safe and to account for some spoiling. Knocking out a RaptorRaptors are fairly easy animals to knock out. If you want to do it the most efficient way, tranquilizer arrows are the way to go. Two or three tranq arrows should be enough to get the job done on almost any lvl of raptor. If you’ve got no tranquilizer arrows, you can do it the old fashioned way with a slingshot and/ or punches. Aim for the head for the best effect while constantly back peddling to avoid getting bit. It’s always a good idea to lure the animal you’re taming to a relatively safe place so that they aren’t attacked or exposed to other players while in that vulnerable state. The Taming ProcessPrime meat will make the process a lot faster, but generally it will take between 0.5 to 1.5 hours to completely tame a raptor (dependent on level as well). Ensure that they are completely stocked on meat and have a torpor level above 50% to avoid them waking up, and to keep the taming process going smoothly. Taming efficiency is also effected by the food you feed your Raptor as well as whether you use Narco Berries or Narcotic. When possible, always use Narcotics and Prime Meat to increase the taming effectiveness and get those extra levels. Template:Arkitexure start No Habitat Common Rare The Utahraptor (You-tah-RAP-tor) or simply Raptor is one of the dinosaurs in ARK: Survival Evolved. Basic InfoDossierThis section is intended to be an exact copy of what the survivor Helena Walker, the author of the dossiers, has written. There may be some discrepancies between this text and the in-game creature. “ Species Utahraptor prime Time Early Cretaceous Diet Carnivore Temperament Aggressive WildUtahraptor prime is an incredibly aggressive subspecies of Utahraptor found on the Island. It tends to travel in small hunting packs, attacking smaller prey with its sharp teeth and enlarged foreclaws. When hunting in packs, the pack leader can vocalize a signal that acts as a battle cry. Be prepared to run or fight if you hear the call of the Utahraptor! The pack will repeat the calls and attack with much greater intensity. One of the faster creatures on the island, Utahraptor often uses their pack numbers to their advantage by swarming around their prey before it can react. The large curved talon on the second toe of this sub-species seems particularly suited for dealing significant damage. Utahraptor prime usually kill its prey with numerous slashing and biting attacks in rapid sequence. DomesticatedWhat the Utahraptor lacks in size, it makes up for in ingenuity. Rather than chase down smaller creatures, Utahraptor will pounce and pin its prey to the ground rather than chasing it around. Despite its normally aggressive nature, Utahraptors have become one of the primary combat mounts for roaming bands of raiders, as well as scouts for larger collectives. Those who ride Utahraptor claim they are difficult to tame, but then fiercely loyal. As a carnivore, once tamed they require a steady stream of meat to sustain. „ BehaviorRaptors may not be the most physically intimidating of animals, but their relatively small size, intelligence, range and mobility make them by far the most successful and effective predator of humans and other "small" wildlife in the entire game. They attack almost anything, even creatures many times their size on sight, and have felled more survivors than any of their competitors. They often attack with a "run-and-bite" strategy and can pounce at smaller targets than itself or of equal size holding the target down making them unable to move, making it difficult to defend against an onslaught. A dangerous predator to encounter in the dark, Raptors are nearly impossible to fend off when attacking in packs and aided by darkness. The Raptors often attack from different directions, using this method to take down prey while avoiding damage. Due to their high speed and ability to vocalize for pack buff (if in a pack of 3 or more), they are hard to flee from during a player's early levels, and it is advised to make for deep water (or just deep enough water that you can be just out of reach) if attempting to flee an attack or run behind a door and immediately shut it. AppearanceThe Raptor is a relatively small dinosaur with feathers on the head, back, tail, and on the backs of the arms. They come in a variety of colors, although green and reddish brown seem to be the most common, while the rarest color variation is black. used Tek Raptor (Variant)The Tek Raptor is a creature that was permanently added to the game in the Extinction Chronicles III event. It is a unique alternate of the original Raptor, and is purely made of Tek. Unlike the original, they spawn at a 5% rate at a 20% higher level than usual. DropsBase Stats and Growth
Wild Stats Level-upType in values of a wild creature to see on which stats it's emphasized. Green values on a high-level creature are very good for breeding. If you have already tamed your creature you can try to recover the breeding stats with an external tool.[1] Raptor The stat-calculator does not work in the mobile-view, see here for alternatives: Apps Note that after the creature is tamed it gets bonuses on some stats depending on the taming effectiveness. This makes it hard to retrieve the levels on a tamed creature, so this tool is only for wild ones, but gives a first impression, how well the stats are distributed. TamingFor general info about domesticating a wild creature see Taming. KO StrategyFirstly, Raptors do not require a lot of tranquillisers to knock out, even if it is a high level. Start with a thrown Bola to keep it from pursuing you. Once it's immobile, use Tranquilizer Arrows (headshots result in quicker knockouts). Do this carefully; it should not take very many. Note that some Raptors may randomly dodge your bola, so be sure to have more then one, better safe than sorry! Once it is unconscious, use Narcotic. Narcotics and Prime Meat will tame it more efficiently. Narcoberries and Raw Meat also work. Keep a sharp lookout for other Raptors as they often come in groups, and for other predators, as they are frequently found in high-traffic areas; unless you have a large herd of supporting dinos or a number of tribemates to help out, you may have to take the time to find an isolated Raptor, which can take a long time, or kill off the extra creatures. When a raptor is alone, wait for it to kill another dino and tranq it while it is feeding on the corpse. Taming Food
Ingredients for Simple Kibble: 1 × Cooked Fish Meat, 1 × Small Egg, 5 × Fiber, 5 × Mejoberry, 2 × Rockarrot, 1 × WaterAlpha BoostWhen in pack of 3 or more, the Raptor of the highest level in the group gets the Alpha boost for 45 seconds upon making use of vocalization. The Alpha has a glowing red cloud around it to indicate its status whereas the rest have an orange cloud next to themselves. Tamed Raptors also have a bonus for each member of the pack : so a pack of three Raptors or more will receive a +1 Bonus, which will go up to +X in a Group of X+1 or more Raptors (max amount of X is 4). CombatThey run fast and attack faster, so be prepared for a quick reaction, usually a player with good speed and stamina can outrun them, but be aware, they can be persistent. Always check the Raptor's surroundings and be prepared, they have a good visual range. Raptors can also pounce upon survivors and their smaller tames. Is not often recommended to fight a pack of wild raptor with a low level tamed one, as your raptor will be outnumbered and pounced upon whilst you are hopelessly strangled by other members of the pack. In fact, avoid any contact with a pack of Raptors if you are riding any tame that you may be able to be pounced off of. Even if your tame is strong, your will be pinned down. GeneralRaptors can often be found in packs of two or more, depending on the zone you will find them close to the shores, or deep in the jungle. StrategyThe best strategy is to keep distance or heavily engage with them, depending on your stats, armor and weaponry. At first you may want to avoid them. One trick is to run to a herd of Trikes, Stegos etc. and get the Raptors to hit and aggro them by accident, making a diversion or a means to gather lots of meat and hide. If a Raptor is a low level, a Spear can easily kill it, but beware, if they are in a pack of two or more, this strategy will not work! A way to kill high level ones, or two or more Raptors is to have a good climber, like a Thylacoleo, or a flyer. Then climb onto a big rock, as they are good jumpers, from there, shoot it with a Slingshot, Bow, Crossbow etc. It should die fairly quickly.Fighting fire with fire also works, use pack animals like other raptors or even better, direwolves, to exterminate an inferior pack is sure to work, it also asserts your dominance against them. Also, make sure the Raptor is not glowing red. If it is, that's an Alpha Raptor! WeaponryOne well placed headshot with a Crossbow can take out a Raptor with a level between 1-20. Since they are fast, try to make them run in a straight line and be ready for shooting. A full set of hide armor or other armor stronger than cloth armor and any weapon will also do. Having a bola in your inventory is very useful, especially if you're low level because you can bola the Raptor if it attacks you and run, or kill it. DangersRaptors can be dangerous if they reach you from behind, eventually you will learn to recognize their steps on the ground and start running before this happens. If you or your dino are relatively smaller than them, they can pounce and render you immobile for some time. Extra caution must be taken when facing a Aberrant Raptor, as it will always use the pounce when in combat. Try to take them out when they are engaged with some big animal if you want to easily kill them, just don't hit the bigger animal!WeaknessRaptors have a very low Torpor tolerance, you can try to knock them out with a few punches if you have a high melee damage stat. Wild Raptors also make for awkward swimmers, and even a relatively ill-equipped survivor with a basic spear can lure them into the shoreline as a tide-turning last resort. If they have immobilized a target, they can't attack any other dino until they hop off the said target, making them vulnerable should there not be any other Raptors nearby. UtilityThey can be useful and lightweight for traveling, as far as their Stamina lasts, you may want to increase their Stamina if you want them for transport, or their health and attack damage if you want them to assist you on combat. They gather about the same or slightly more material per carcass compared to a Stone Pick, but finish gathering faster. They can also pounce onto smaller targets to temporarily immobilize them (and to kill them). If a survivor is on a certain mounted dino, Raptors can also knock them off their mount and immobilize them. The following creatures can be immobilized by its pounce ability: Note: Can only pounce Ferox in its small form. The following mounts that a Raptor can knock a player off of: The following additional creatures on ARK: Survival Evolved Mobile can be immobilized by its pounce ability: Roles
