My 2004 GMC recently sustained a ding to the tip of the hood when a rock flew up from the truck ahead.

Is Chevy Olympic white the same as Summit white?

No dent, just a small chip of missing paint. Went to the dealers to get some touch-up, gave them my VIN, and they told me Olympic White is my color. When I bought the truck, the sticker and the '04 brochure said it was Summit White.

Funny thing is, when I went to the local GM parts distributorship to clarify the confusion, they also told me Olympic White! So, is it Summit White or Olympic White?

Same thing happen to me. Went in to get Summit White and the dealer gave me Olympic White. I guess that the VIN # is the key info needed to get a correct color match.

Thank you all! What a relief. I went out and purposely purchased these micro brushes. I envisioned getting the Olympic on the say-so of the parts guy at the dealer, dabbing a little on this small spot and realizing some Jack A** had screwed up and given me the wrong color. Guess they were right after all. I'll pick up some on Monday. Thank you again!

Whites are NOT the same and will stick out like a sore thumb if you don't have them exactly matched. Whites are about the hardest color to match properly. Even the same color that's on the truck won't match if you don't use the same primer under it or if the current color is slightly faded. Are you just asking because you want the whiter of the two or do you have one of the colors and have a part that's the other color? I don't know what the paint codes are off the top of my head.

If the paints are different paint codes then there is a difference. Although the difference may be as little as 1 gram of a toner so there may not be much difference. However all colors even the same code will have a slight difference in hue once things like age and fading take place. You can have a gallon of paint, paint your truck, save whats left over and a few months later if you need to change a fender, you can paint the fender with the exact same paint out of the same paint can, and it's not going to be the same shade. That's where doing a blend comes in. And the two whites you mentioned, if you panel paint, they are going to be very noticeable different, but if you do a blend, the two whites are close enough to be blended and not have a problem.

totally ****ing agree..... the worst part is, i painted a door on an s10, my first time painting... didnt know wtf i was doing, just got the paint code and sprayed what they mixed, even matched factory peel in the clear, didnt even know what that was at the time, or how i did it.... came out nice. blended good considering i shot the whole door, and it was 97, and a little faded..... now a a few months later, i got better at painting.... got a little more technical, painted the glass on my buddies f150... spent the extra 15 bucks for them to color match it to a panel on the truck thought ooo it would be fine... i sprayed it, then unmasked it a little, the truck color was a little dark, but white, the color i sprayed was bright ass white!! boy was i pissed...... well that was over a year ago...... imgunna repaint it for my buddy and redo it, because im not happy with it, the glass had a couple pinholes and i had one run on it..... now that im pickier and a wayyyy better painter, and have my own side buisness for painting, i need to redo it cuz its my name out there..... but ne ways that goes to show u that whites can be totally off
