Whether you're a hiking enthusiast or live in a bustling city, having a durable phone will give you peace of mind. If you have an S7 or newer, your phone is equipped with protection from water, dirt, and grime. An IP rating or Ingress Protection rating is a universally accepted measurement for dust and liquid resistance. Almost all newer Galaxy phones have an IP rating of 68, excluding the Galaxy Fold, Z Flip, and the S10 5G. That means you can bring your phone on your adventures without having to worry.

Note: Available screens and settings may vary by wireless service provider, software version, and phone model. The touchscreen may not be active in water. If you have a Note, the S Pen does not need to be inserted to maintain the IP68 rating. The S Pen has an IP68 rating as well. If a phone model is not listed, then it does not have an IP rating.

Here is a list of all Samsung phones with the highest level of water protection. If a phone is not listed, it does not have an IP rating and is not dust or water resistant.

The following phones carry an IP68 rating:

  • S21 5G, S21+ 5G, S21 Ultra 5G, and S21 Fan Edition

  • S20 5G, S20+ 5G, S20 Ultra 5G, and S20 Fan Edition

  • Note9, including the S Pen

  • Note20 5G and Note20 Ultra 5G, including the S Pen

  • Note10, Note10+, Note10+ 5G, including the S Pen

  • Note8, including the S Pen

  • S7, S7 edge, and S7 Active

Note: The S5 Active, A52 5G, and A53 5G have an IP67 rating. The Galaxy Z Fold3, Z Fold4, Z Flip3, and Z Flip4 have an IPX8 rating.

If you are headed to the beach or waterpark, you can take comfort knowing your phone can keep up with you if it has a high IP rating. Just make sure you don't drop the phone in the ocean or while you're going down a waterslide.

Keep these tips in mind when you're facing the elements:

  • Whenever your phone gets wet, dry it thoroughly with a clean, soft cloth.

  • Do not expose the phone to salt water or ionized water. If your phone is exposed to salt water, wash the phone with fresh water, and then dry thoroughly with a clean, soft cloth. Otherwise, when it dries, salt may accumulate and block the primary microphone, earpiece, or external speaker.

  • When drying off your phone, be sure to pat the earpiece (top front of the phone), primary microphone (bottom of phone), external speaker (bottom of phone), and the power/accessory (USB) interface connector with a clean, soft cloth to remove as much water as possible.

  • Do not try making a call immediately after your phone has gotten wet. The microphone may have water in it, which may lower the volume of your voice on the other line. Wipe the phone with a clean, soft cloth, and then allow the phone to air-dry before making a call.

  • Physical damage to your phone, such as chips and cracks, can significantly reduce its ability to resist dust and water.

  • If the S Pen is exposed to water, wipe it with a dry cloth. If water has entered the S Pen slot on your phone, gently shake the phone to remove the water before using it. Make sure your phone and S Pen are completely dry before inserting the S Pen. Moisture can cause the S Pen to feel stiff when you're trying to detach it.
