Costco has managed to cement its reputation as a retail brand that offers plenty of good deals to its members. One of the things that the retailer is truly well-known for is its in-house brand, Kirkland. According to a piece by Reader's Digest, some of the best Kirkland items that you can buy are the brand's signature bacon that is said to have unmatched flavor, the highly affordable maple syrup, high-quality cheese, and the brand's extra virgin olive oil.

In fact, some Kirkland products are said to be far better than their counterparts with famous brand names in other stores. Unfortunately, while this does apply to several Kirkland products, there are exceptions to this rule. Take the Kirkland Sliced Oven Roasted Turkey Breast, for example. As tempting as a good deal at the store may seem, it's best for you to avoid this product for the sake for your health. Read on to learn more.

How to Serve the Kirkland Oven Browned Turkey Breast

The Kirkland Oven Browned Turkey Breast is fully cooked and ready to eat. This is a boneless, skinless breast which makes slicing and serving a breeze.

I was intrigued to see that the back of the packaging had slicing instructions.  Apparently you slice the meat Left to Right, the “short way”, when you want to make sandwiches and Top to Bottom, the “long way”, when you want to serve slices as an entrée.

If you want to serve this roast an an entrée Costco suggests heating it up in a shallow pan with water for an hour in a 350F oven.  Slice the meat after heating instead of before to prevent it from drying out.

How Does the Kirkland Chicken Breast Taste

This roast is slightly salty but otherwise unseasoned.  Overall this is a relatively bland piece of turkey.

I have been using slices of the turkey as an easy protein to go with Mediterranean Salads.  It is also pretty good when diced up and added to an omelet made with Kirkland egg whites.

The roast is a nice thing to have in the refrigerator for when I get the 3:00 p.m. hunger pains and I want a filling, low calorie snack.  It’s easy to open the fridge, carve off a slice and get about my day.

Overall the turkey breast tastes exactly like it should.

Sliced Turkey Breast Options at Costco

If you are looking for pre-sliced turkey breasts then my Costco has a few other options.

The first option is sliced Herb Roasted Turkey Breast from Columbus.

The Columbus turkey is more expensive than Kirkland ($8.79 vs $4.59 per pound) but is conveniently pre-sliced and slightly more flavorful due to the herb coating.

The second option for pre-sliced turkey breast is the three pack of organic turkey from Dietz & Watson which  is only slightly more expensive than the Columbus product ($8.87 vs $8.79 per pound).

I like the fact that the Dietz & Watson comes in a three pack so you can take your time working your way through turkey sandwiches.

Overall both the Dietz & Watson and Columbus products are fine if what you want is pre-sliced turkey but you will be overpaying in comparison to your third option.

The third option is the three pack of Kirkland Signature Oven Roasted Sliced Turkey Breast that is currently selling for $4.56 per pound.  The meat comes in three resealable packages which each hold 14 ounce of product.

It took me a while to find the Kirkland sliced turkey because they do not keep it buy the Columbus or Dietz & Watson products.  Instead Costco keeps the Kirkland sliced turkey in the refrigerated section near where they keep the bacon and hot dogs.

Is Kirkland turkey breast good?

Taste wise I really enjoyed this turkey, it tasted fresh, not overly salty to me. This was also cut into nice and thick pieces, none of that super thin deli meat here. It made great sandwiches. I used mustard, cheese, lettuce and tomato in my sandwich.
