  • @=Freshman mile is limited to first 30 paid entries per gender who meet the entry standard.
  • Freshman 2 Mile is limited to first 20 paid entries per gender who meet the entry standard.
  • All Freshman events are limited to ninth-graders ONLY; no middle school entrants permitted.
  • #=Events contested are the One Mile Run, Two Mile Run, 2000m Steeplechase, 5000m Run and 400m Hurdles. (1500m/1600m can be used to qualify for the mile; 3000m/3200m can be used to qualify for the 2 miles; 3200m/2M can be used to qualify for the 5000m; 300m hurdles can be used to qualify for 400m hurdles)
  • *=All-Star Relays are NOT permitted (meaning all runners on a relay must attend the same high school).
  • **=Road race and cross-country times may not be used to qualify.
  • ***=Decathlon and heptathlon are limited to first 20 paid entrants who meet the entry standard.
  • Order of Medley Relay Events
  • 800m Medley : 100-100-200-400
  • 1600m Medley: 200-200-400-800
  • Distance Medley : 1200-400-800-1600
  • Swedish Medley Relay: 100-200-300-400 with start at 200m starting line.
  • @=Championship Distance Medley is limited to first 12 entries who meet the entry standard.
  • Entries are accepted on the basis of marks made in the current and winter 2015-2016 seasons with few exceptions.  Relay performances from the 2015-2016 indoor season may not be used unless all four team members are returning.
  • Composite entry times must be comprised of individual races from acceptable meets from the current spring season ONLY.
  • Under no circumstances will time trial or dual/tri/quad meet marks or relay splits be accepted for entry purposes; standards must be met in meets of 5 or more teams in individual races.

Eligibility

Full-time students in grades 9-12 who are eligible for their high school team (and/or any high school athlete) born SEPTEMBER 1, 1996 or later, and who have met the entry guidelines, are eligible to compete. In addition, home-schooled athletes who meet the age and entry requirements are eligible to compete. Specifically not eligible are athletes who have graduated from high school or those in their 5th or later year from the start of ninth grade.

How do you make it to New Balance Nationals?

Hurdle, 200m and 400m marks must have been run in open races and not relays. 800m and 1600m marks can be official FAT split times but must be posted online and verifiable. The 1200m leg in the DMR can be a projection, but that athlete must have a verifiable race at least 1000m in length.
