The Bears dominated on defense and rolled to a 49-0 shutout win over Dallas Adamson in their District 6-5A DII opener at the Sprague Athletic Complex. South Oak Cliff — the defending 5A DII Texas high school football state champion — put its early-season struggles in the rear view mirror with its play Thursday, especially on the defensive side of the ball. The Bears limited Adamson's offense to 83 total yards for the night. South Oak Cliff's elite secondary — headlined by a DI quartet of defensive backs in Malik Muhammad (Texas commit), Jayvon Thomas (Texas A&M commit), Abdul Muhammad (SMU commit) and Taylor Starling (Colorado commit) — effectively grounded the Leopards' aerial attack. SOC's secondary held Adamson's offense to 65 yards through the air on 7-of-24 passing, but the Bears front seven had an even greater impact on Adamson's running game. Led by Texas commit Billy Walton, South Oak Cliff's defensive front dominated the line of scrimmage to hold the Leopards to 18 rushing yards, or 1.4 yards per carry, for the night. Quarterback Carter Kopecky led South Oak's passing attack with 160 yards and a touchdown throw on 9-of-11 passing, while receivers Adam Madise and Trey Jackson combined for 111 yards and two touchdown receptions on five catches. The Bears also scored five rushing touchdowns offensively. Izale Williams and Levell Peters combined for 143 yards and three touchdowns on the ground on nine carries for SOC. South Oak Cliff (2-3, 1-0) will look to add to its two-game winning streak when the Bears battle Dallas Spruce (4-0, 0-0) in another District 6-5A DII matchup at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 30 at the Sprague Athletic Complex in Dallas. Dallas Adamson (1-3, 1-1), meanwhile, will have a chance to bounce back when the Leopards return to action against Dallas Samuell (1-3, 0-0) at the same time Friday, Sept. 30, at Pleasant Grove Stadium in Dallas.
