Barely anything has been translated yet (only 2.2 chapters) so take this review with a big grain of salt if you're reading it at a later date.

So far this looks pretty terrible. Not in a, it's an awful manga way, more in the "this looks painfully average" kind of way. The main guy idolises some pretty girl at his highschool, shenanigans ensure that she has to take care of him while he's sick, later on she shares just a bit of personal stuff.

Before going into this review I will assume that you have read the original work - the light novels. However, those who came across the manga before can pick up some information from this review as well.

Only a few chapters of the manga have been released (and translated) but I think this is the manga that shows how a different person interprets the story differently, by 'a person' I mean the manga author.

7 chapters in and it already give me diabetes.

Yes, seriously.

First of all I haven't read the original light novel and as of writing this review there's only 7 chapters translated. I don't know what lies ahead but so far it seems to be a typical rom-com with very, very, very sweet story and not-so-intensive plot. The story started off as the synopsis stated. Synopsis

After catching a cold by giving his only umbrella to a girl sitting in the rain, Amane Fujimiya only expects her to eventually return it. However, Mahiru Shiina, the "Angel" of Amane's school and his neighbor, instead gives him a lot more than that. Instead of just the umbrella, she insists on returning the favor by helping him recover from his cold. However, she is oblivious to the battlefield that is Amane's apartment.

The only word Mahiru finds from her mouth to describe the chaos is "unsightly." But despite her unsympathetic description, Mahiru proceeds to help the hopeless Amane. Otonari no Tenshi-sama ni Itsunomanika Dame Ningen ni Sareteita Ken follows Amane as he is taken care of by Mahiru, who attends to various chores—from cleaning his apartment to cooking dinner. Is there anything that the Angel can not do?

Otonari no Tenshi-sama ni Itsunomanika Dame Ningen ni Sareteita Ken began as a web novel on Shousetsuka ni Narou on December 20, 2018. SB Creative began releasing a revised and illustrated version of the series on June 14, 2019 under its GA Bunko label.

The series has been published in English as The Angel Next Door Spoils Me Rotten by Yen Press under the Yen On imprint since December 15, 2020.

- I've read the Web Novel as well, so this review is for both of them -

This story started out decent enough to be enjoyable, even though it is as generic as it gets.
This starts with the characters:

mmc: your typical average no self-esteem loser dude, that can't cook or even keep his own flat tidy. And of course he is dense as fuck.
fmc: perfect - beautiful, can do anything (except getting friends).
O, and there are mmc's friends, it's a couple, who would've guessed, right?

This LN does not have an extraordinary plot.
It's the same as any other Light Novel you know. Girl is famous, Guy's common and isn't special, but then the girl begins to have some interest in the guy.

Maybe it’s just my personal enjoyment, but still I think, that this book's quite enjoyable.

The stories did always put a smile on my face, with cute situations, or just wholesome moments. There of course are funny moments too, with for example the side character teasing, the situation they are in, trying not to get seen and so on…

You've read a story like this, and it's been done better. Guy secretly likes the girl and she starts to warm up to him. If you've never read anything like that before you might like this, but it's been done to death and much better than done here.

It's filled with stereotypes and offers almost nothing unique. The writing itself isn't bad exactly, but it's not what I'd call good either. Then the characters, for what felt like most of the book, aren't being particularly nice to each other and are generally inconsistent and I couldn't stand how the girl was basically the guy's mom ...
