Too moving

This book is a good book but quite complicated and moving for 7 years old. I advise to read if when you are 10 so that you don't cry over it on the sad parts.

My all time favorite

I can't say enough about this fantastic story. I have read it with each one of my children and I still can't get enough. Watching Edward change throughout the book was a powerful message. Humbling and sincere. A must read for any age. I wish there was a sequel.

A bunny with Many Names

This book had me crying quite a few times while reading aloud with my daughter. It is a great reminder to not take all the little things in life for granted. My daughter loved it also! She would beg to keep reading at the end of each chapter.

Ms. Altobelli's 2nd grade class review

This book is a great read aloud for teacher's to read to their classes! The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane is about a China doll rabbit that learns to love. Edward goes on a journey when he accidentally was thrown overboard while on a cruise. During the journey, he was moved through many different people in harsh and conditions. Throughout journey, Edward learned what it meant to lose someone you love and this changed for the better. Our class' favorite part was whenever Edward was found by another person to take care of him. We also loved how the book ended. The author adds details that have emotions and feelings. We are able to create a movie in our head with all of the details that are given. The pictures are beautifully drawn and added in the perfect places. Our class believes that children above the age of seven should read this book because it is moving and challenging! We learned the importance of loving and appreciating those close to us!

Heartwarming story with a sweet ending

We read this before bed over the course of 2 weeks. My kids loved the story and I loved the ending (even teared up a bit).

Caution: Death Happens in the Middle

Beautifully written and illustrated children's book about the inner life of a child's toy as it journeys from self-obsession to joy and love. My 7-year olds were squealing and I was in tears at the brilliant ending.

Fantastic book. Maybe a potential classic?

Luckily, I saw where Common Sense had recommended this book, so I picked it up at our local library to read with my 8 yr old. Each day we carved out a little time to read it, and talk about things going on in it. The storytelling was doe so well, we felt as though we were a part of the story... in a way. The illustrations were a really nice touch to help visualize certain things going on. I see where some say this is good for 7-8 yr olds. My only concern is that there a a fair number of words that are well above the average reading or word knowledge level for a 7-8 yr old. Since I was reading it to my daughter, she would ask me what they meant. Words such as: jaunty, ennui, unsavory, derogatory, etc.

A Wonderful Story For All

I read this novel at the age of eight years-old, and I found that it was a story with many emotions with which young kids can relate to. It offered so much intrigue as it was suspenseful, while also teaching kids basic morals. Each student in my grade four class, at the time, really liked this book, and were thoroughly engaged; even those who are not avid readers. Although the content could be considered depressing, it allows kids to discuss emotions and the different ways in which the characters act as they evolve throughout the story. Overall, this book is a wonderful story, for any child, and adult.

Exeptional Action + Adventure story

Do you guys like miraculous journeys? If you do, this story is for you. It has a positive message, of adapting to hard things, with many great role models. I also love how the author develops Edward's character, since he's a toy out of china. It's like toy story, but more serious. There are some sad parts, such as leaving so may friends, and a character dies. I definitely recommend this book to any age 9+.

Unconventional book by Newberry Medal winning author of 'Because of Winn Dixie' and 'Tale of Despereaux' will kick you right in the feelings. I love it!

I cried over a vain, heartless toy rabbit at least 5 times! Edward Tulane is a ceramic rabbit, that is owned by a rich family. He spent his whole life being praised by people around him, but after his family loses him, he travels the world and sees how people suffer. Great Messages: This teaches messages about loving, being independent, being attached, selflessness, and more. Great Role Models: Edward learns to be a better person from those who he meets in his travels Violence: A young girl dies. It is sad, not violent, she was sick when we were introduced to her. A boys father hits him and shatters Edward. Sex: No Sex Swearing: No Swearing Drinking Drugs and Smoking: A boys father is a drunk and is hardly around. This book is great for all ages, but I think only kids 8 and up would understand how emotional the story is

It's okay!

This book is good for children who need to read a novel in school, that's where I read it. It is very quirky and a bit odd. Good for kids who like to use their imagination, but not my first choice.

Full of Growth

I loved this book. and reread it 3 times. It explores topics like selfishness, narcissism, kindness, growth, and most of all, sadness. The more edward loses, the more humble he gets. I read this book becauseit was recommended to me by my 3rd grade teacher, and I have no regrets. The illustrations this book make me feel at peace while reading it. The only thing that I would say could've made this book even more tearful is if edward didn't survive at the end. If he wasn"t rescued by the china shop. Man, I would've balled my eyes out. I loved this book, and I highly recommend it to those over 8 years old.

Amazing.

This is an amazing story a read a year or so ago, and it was probably the first book that made me feel strong emotions. It includes many mature topics however, such as child abuse, loss, drinking, and poverty. I would recommend this to 10+, though mature 9-year-olds can enjoy this as well. Grab your tissues though.
