Bats and silverfish Show In short: to tame a bat, feed it with silverfish drop. I'd like to propose a small idea to give bats and silverfish interesting uses. It's like connecting two loose points that seem useless. Current situation I noticed some people have already said that bats are useless, they are rather eye-candy mob and add mood to the caves than anything else. I noticed too, someone people (me too) would like to tame them. But how? I thought most bats eat fruits and insects; silverfish is an insect. So, we have the current situation: - Bats don't drop anything, not even XPs. They are rather for aesthetics. Almost no benefit: most players don't have interest in bats since they don't offer anything else than aesthetics and cues for caves. - Silverfish don't drop anything too and are hostile. No player would want to look for silverfish. They don't do anything else than hurting the player that is exploring a stronghold or mining in extreme hill biomes. Details of the idea The idea is to give a rewarding way for people who want to tame bats. It needs to be a bit challenging, harder than taming any other passive mob. 1. First, find silverfish: If you want to tame a bat, you would need to find a good amount of silverfish, which are found only in the strongholds and rarely in extreme hill biomes, and kill some of them. Silverfish would drop something, I'm not sure what, it could be "Death Silverfish". 2. Taming bats: Collect some drops from the silverfish you killed, go to a cave where the bats are and offer the drops to the bats, or feed them directly by right-clicking on them. If successful, the tamed bats will follow you (flying around), or sit on your shoulder, or even you would be able to catch one with your hand. 3. Perch - Leaving them home: If you want to leave your tamed bat resting somewhere, you would need to build a perch (no cage please!), which is made of sticks and planks:
Once you have made a perch, right-click on it and the bat will fly from you towards the perch and hang on it upside down. If you want to give your tamed bat a walk, just right-click on him/it. 4. Possible uses of tamed bats: - Bats would be able to kill silverfish on sight. This means that you can leave tamed bats flying in a room where the silverfish spawner is: you have now silverfish XP grinder. - Bats would squeak faster if a hostile mob is approaching or spawned nearby. Say, you built a mushroom farm, which requires some darkness or mushrooms won't grow up, but once in a while a hostile mob spawns there. You can leave a tamed bat there to alert you if a hostile mob spawned in your badly lit room. That's all.
A bat is a flying ambient[1] passive mob that spawns in dark areas underground. Spawning[]Bats can spawn in groups of 8[JE only]/2[BE only] in the Overworld at a light level of 3 or less on opaque blocks below layer 63. They also need at least 2 air blocks (or alternatively, a top trapdoor or top slab in the block above foot level). In Java Edition, between October 20 and November 3, they require a light level of 6 or less to spawn. On Superflat worlds, bats spawn below the top non-air layer, ignoring the usual layer-63 limitation. Drops[]Bats do not drop any items or experience upon death. Behavior[]Bats are small, less than a block tall and wide. They squeak randomly. They often fly around aimlessly, tending to favor the east, and sometimes fly into lava and catch on fire. Bats hang upside down on the underside of a solid block when idle, though they cannot hang on transparent or non-solid blocks. If a player approaches a bat hanging upside down, even if the player is invisible, it flies away. This also happens if the player breaks the block the bat is hanging from. Like most other passive mobs, bats despawn when too far away from the player. Bats' collision boxes do not interact with the player or redstone components. Sounds[]Bats use the Friendly Creatures sound category for entity-dependent sound events.

Can u tame bats in Minecraft? You can tame the normal bat by giving it moths. You can get moths by having any kind of light source outside at night. They will fly around the light. Basically you just have to kill the moths and feed them to the bat.
