My period is over a week late so this evening I finally plucked up the courage to test, I’ve been putting it off as I’m really scared of the disappointment.
I did the test by peeing into a pot and dipping the absorbent tip in for 20 secs, this to me seemed like the more accurate method than holding in the urine stream for 5 secs, and as it’s evening and not my first morning pee I wanted to give it as much change of being accurate as poss.

I laid it flat as instructed and after about a minute a symbol of an arrow and a book appeared, the instructions say this means there was an error with the test in that the test might have been turned so the absorbent tip might have facing upwards (it wasn’t, I was careful to ensure) or that too much or too little urine was placed on the tip.

It sounds ridiculous but I actually could cry with frustration. I really built myself up to take the test, pep talking myself all the way on my drive home from work.

Now not sure what to do... test again tonight or wait til the morning when my HCG levels will be higher? Not really ideal taking the test in the morning then going to work, I won’t be able to think of anything else all day if I do get the result I want!

Also what’s to say that the same won’t happen, as I followed the instructions to a T.

Help!! :(

Do you dip for the amount if time it says on the instructions?
I didn't know if the book error was their way of saying 'Not' even though it's supposed to say 'Not Pregnant' - as when used previously with my boys I was.

What does a book mean on a pregnancy test

I'll leave it a couple of days & try dipping.
If I'm not then I may need to visit the doctor!

The book error means that the test hasn't been done correctly. Dip for 20 seconds. When the egg timer shows up (for the weeks counter ) or the count down lines appear (standard digital) then that means the test is starting to work and to lay flat xx

Book Error – an error has occurred during testing. It may be that: The Absorbent Sampler was not kept pointing downwards or the test was not laid flat after urine was applied. • Too much or too little urine was applied. You should test again using a new test taking care to follow the instructions.

How sensitive are ept pregnancy tests?

How do you take a pregnancy test correctly?

How pregnancy tests work

  1. collect your urine in a cup and dip a testing stick into the liquid.
  2. collect your urine in a cup and use an eyedropper to move a small amount of fluid into a special container.
  3. place the testing stick into the area of your expected urine stream so that it will catch your urine midstream.

Does drinking a lot of water mess up a pregnancy test?

Don’t drink too much water, or any liquid, before taking a pregnancy test. Excess fluids can impact the accuracy of the test results, so if your urine is diluted or pale yellow, hold off on taking a test. Diluted urine tends to also have diluted hCG levels which can skew the test results.

Does an invalid pregnancy test mean she is pregnant?

Either you’re not pregnant or it’s too early to test. Invalid: If only the test line (T) shows up, or no lines develop, the test didn’t work. This could mean the absorbent tip wasn’t saturated with enough urine, or the test is expired or damaged. Grab another test and try again.

How many weeks does it take for a pregnancy test to show positive?

In many cases, you might get a positive from an at-home test as early as 10 days after conception. For a more accurate result, wait until after you’ve missed your period to take a test. Remember, if you take a test too soon it could be negative even if you are pregnant.

Is it better to pee on a pregnancy test or in a cup?

With test strips, you’ll want to pee in a cup and dip the test strip in the cup to get an accurate result. If you try to pee directly on the strip, the results may be blurry or invalid.

What is C and T on a pregnancy test?

Pregnancy hormone levels present – 2 red lines in both the test window (T) and control window (C) means you may have retained products of conception. One line may be lighter than the other; they do not have to match.
