Meanwhile, a secret society, the Order of the Phoenix, has been formed to combat Voldemort, who is rumored to be rebuilding his army of Death Eaters. At Hogwarts, Dolores Umbridge is appointed the new Defense Against the Dark Arts professor, but she is also spying on the school for the Ministry. Because they are not learning anything under Umbridge's tutelage, Harry, Hermione and Ron form a student group, Dumbledore's Army, to prepare for the return of Voldemort. Haunted by strange visions, Harry discovers that he and Voldemort can read each other's thoughts. Professor Snape gives Harry lessons in Occlumency to block Voldemort's intrusion into his mind, but because of their mutual disdain, Harry learns little. Harry has a vision that Sirius is in danger and heads to the Department of Mysteries, but it turns out to be a trap set by Voldemort. The Dark Lord is looking for a prophecy in a glass sphere that only Harry can retrieve. Dumbledore's Army fights the Death Eaters until the Order of the Phoenix arrives. Sirius dies at the hands of his cousin, Bellatrix; the Death Eaters are captured; and Voldemort disappears after dueling with Dumbledore. The Ministry finally admits that Voldemort has returned. Dumbledore reveals the chilling prophecy: Harry must kill Voldemort or be murdered by him. Harry returns to the Dursleys, depressed by the loss of his godfather Sirius. K. Rowling, released on 11 July, 2007 in the U.S. and 12 July, 2007 in the U.K. David Yates made his directorial debut for the series, as did Michael Goldenberg for writing and David Barron for producing, while David Heyman returned from the first four films to produce. Reprising their roles from the previous films are Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, Emma Watson, Robbie Coltrane, Ralph Fiennes, Michael Gambon, Brendan Gleeson, Richard Griffiths, Jason Isaacs, Gary Oldman, Alan Rickman, Fiona Shaw, Maggie Smith, David Thewlis, Emma Thompson, David Bradley, Warwick Davis, Tom Felton, Robert Hardy, Julie Walters and Mark Williams, while Helena Bonham Carter, Imelda Staunton, George Harris and Natalia Tena make their debut for the series. This film is the only one of the series for which Steve Kloves did not write the screenplay. When asked why he turned it down, he said "You know, I don’t even know why. The fourth film, Goblet of Fire, was really hard to do. I wrote on it for two years. But it’s not that simple and I don’t know that I’ll ever fully understand why I didn’t do it. This will sound glib, but it’s somewhat true: They asked me on the wrong day."[1] The film grossed $941 million worldwide, making it the second highest-grossing film of 2007 (behind Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End) and the sixth highest-grossing film of all time at the time (behind Titanic, The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest, The Philosopher's Stone and At World's End). PlotIn the wake of Cedric Diggory's death and Lord Voldemort's return, Harry Potter is worried that things could get worse. As he and his cousin Dudley are walking home from the park (following Dudley's antagonising Harry in front of his friends), they are attacked by Dementors (secretly sent by Dolores Umbridge) and Harry casts a Patronus Charm to save them both from the Dementor's Kiss. An extremely baffled Dudley is taken back to Privet Drive accompanied by Mrs Figg, a squib who is a neighbour of Harry and was told by Dumbledore to keep an eye on him. Later, a Howler from Mafalda Hopkirk of the Ministry arrives for Harry and tells him he is expelled from Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry for using magic in front of a Muggle. The Order of the Phoenix comes and collects Harry while Alastor Moody reveals that Dumbledore ordered his expulsion order suspended in favour of a disciplinary hearing. The Order flies him to 12 Grimmauld Place to stay, where he finds out that Hermione and Ron's family are there, too. Harry also has many nightmares about the events that had happened the previous year, including the death of Cedric Diggory and the rejuvenation of Voldemort. While at 12 Grimmauld Place, Harry's godfather Sirius Black mentions that Voldemort is after "something he didn't have last time." Around this time Harry also learns about the Order of the Phoenix, an organisation of which Sirius Black, Severus Snape, Mr and Mrs Weasley, Remus Lupin, Nymphadora Tonks, Professor Moody, and many others are all members. At the Ministry, Dumbledore defends Harry's actions. The Minister for Magic Cornelius Fudge denies Harry's answer to his question, regarding what actually took place on the night in question, leading to further arguments. Mrs Figg gives testimony as a witness of the event. Dumbledore tells Fudge that Voldemort could be behind the Dementor attack, but Fudge refuses to believe that Voldemort is back. In the end, Harry is cleared of all charges, because Dumbledore reminds them that, expelling him from the school for using a charm to defend himself against Dementors is unjustifiable, as it is not forbidden for even an underage wizard to use magic in a matter of life or death. Shortly after Harry, Ron, and Hermione arrive at Hogwarts they find out that the sinister and mean-spirited Dolores Umbridge is the new Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher. It is apparent that she is there as a puppet of the Ministry of Magic in their way of interfering at Hogwarts and keeping rumours about Lord Voldemort's return from spreading. When Harry insists that Voldemort's return is not a lie and that he saw him, Umbridge gives him detention (which consists of making him write "I must not tell lies" repeatedly with a special quill that takes the writing out of his hand, writing it in blood). This proves to be the beginning of Dolores Umbridge's abuses of power as the Ministry of Magic's "high inquisitor"; she introduces restriction after restriction, as well as "evaluating" teachers to determine if they're worthy of remaining at Hogwarts. This leads to her sacking Professor Trelawney, but she is stopped from throwing her out of Hogwarts altogether by Professor Dumbledore, who tells Professor McGonagall to escort Trelawney back inside. When Umbridge begins to argue about his actions, Dumbledore tells her that she has the right to sack teachers but not to banish them from the grounds. At the same time, Dumbledore distances himself from Harry, knowing that Harry's mind is connected to Voldemort and can see visions of Voldemort when he gets a big emotional charge such as happiness or anger. In the face of Umbridge's corruption, refusal to actually teach Hogwarts students anything worthwhile in Defence Against the Dark Arts, and the Ministry of Magic's continued denial of Voldemort's return, the trio, along with many other Gryffindor, Ravenclaw, and Hufflepuff students, band together to form a group that comes to be known as "Dumbledore's Army" in honour of the headmaster (who is presently on the receiving end of a smear campaign against him due to his insistence that Voldemort really has returned). The DA members decide to find a secret place in the castle where all willing students can come and learn. Neville Longbottom finds the Room of Requirement, a hidden room in Hogwarts that gives those inside things they need. The group decides that Harry will be their new Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher. The students use the room to train, and Harry begins a relationship with Cho Chang. Under the assumption that Dumbledore's Army is an organisation formed to undermine the Ministry, as High Inquisitor, Umbridge bans most student activities, and forbids any groups, societies, etc., of more than 3 people to continue unless given permission; essentially revoking all student freedom. Harry has a vision of an attack on Arthur Weasley in the Department of Mysteries, saving his life. Afterwards, Dumbledore instructs Snape to give him Occlumency lessons in order to block his mind from Voldemort's influence. The Occlumency lessons causes Harry to begin distancing himself from his friends. Simultaneously, Sirius's deranged cousin, Bellatrix Lestrange, escapes from Azkaban prison along with nine other convicted Death Eaters. Umbridge, who had taken many of the acquaintances of Harry into questioning, finds out about how to get in the Room of Requirement through Cho Chang, whom she had illegally used Veritaserum on, and the Inquisitorial Squad (consisting of Draco Malfoy, Vincent Crabbe, Gregory Goyle, Pansy Parkinson, and a few others from Slytherin) break in. They take Harry and Cho to Dumbledore’s office and the Minister, along with a few others from the Ministry arrive. Dumbledore takes the full blame for the organisation, since, after all, it was called "Dumbledore’s Army". When they attempt to take him to Azkaban, Dumbledore escapes with Fawkes, his phoenix. After this, Umbridge becomes Headmistress and punishes Dumbledore's army with a blood quill detention. Later, during Harry's next Occlumency lesson, an exasperated Harry, tired of Snape's unwanted intrusions in his mind along with his carping and insults, angrily casts a shield charm and penetrates Snape's mind, in so doing seeing several of his most traumatic memories, including one where James Potter and Sirius Black, in their adolescence, bullied Snape relentlessly. Livid at the intrusion, Snape refuses to keep teaching Harry Occlumency, ordering him out. During an examination, the Weasley twins revolt and set off assorted fireworks in the Great Hall, causing chaos for Umbridge and destroying many of her oppressive decrees. At the end of this event, the twins leave Hogwarts to great celebration and jubilation from both the student body and even some of the teachers, nearly all of whom have grown to despise the pompous and sadistic Umbridge. Following the departure of the twins, Harry has a vision of Sirius being tortured by Voldemort within the Department of Mysteries. Hermione points out that Voldemort may only be tricking him to lure him into his grasp, but Harry retaliates by saying that Sirius is Harry's only family left. Harry, Ron, and Hermione rush to Umbridge's fireplace to alert the Order via the Floo Network, and Harry expresses a desire to go to the Ministry alone directly from there, but Umbridge and the Inquisitorial Squad stop them before they can do so. At first, Umbridge tries to get Snape to use more Veritaserum on Harry to force the truth out of him, but Snape calmly informs her that she already used the last of it on Cho Chang. He then departs, seemingly ignoring a coded warning that Harry sends to him. Fuming, Umbridge threatens to use the Cruciatus Curse to get information out of Harry about the trio's intentions. Harry and Hermione then deceive Umbridge into entering the Forbidden Forest in search for Dumbledore's "secret weapon". She and Harry lead her to the hiding place of Hagrid's half-giant brother, Grawp, only to be confronted by centaurs who snatch Umbridge after she insults and tries to attack them. Umbridge begs Harry for help but he replies "I'm sorry professor. But I must not tell lies." The Centaurs then drag a horrified Umbridge off into the woods. After escaping Umbridge, Harry and Hermione meet up with Ron, Luna Lovegood, Neville, and Ginny Weasley, who managed to escape the Inquisitoral Squad. They fly to the Ministry of Magic on Thestrals in an attempt to save Sirius. They go looking for him in the Department of Mysteries. After many failures to locate the Hall of Prophecies, they come across the prophecy of Harry Potter and Lord Voldemort. Just then, many Death Eaters, including Lucius Malfoy and Bellatrix Lestrange, ambush them after Harry touches the prophecy. Lucius says that "you only saw what he wanted you to see", confirming Hermione's earlier hunch. A short battle ensues, and the Death Eaters take hold of everyone but Harry, threatening to kill them if he does not surrender the prophecy. Harry proceeds to hand the prophecy over to Lucius, but is interrupted when Order members Sirius Black, Kingsley Shacklebolt, Remus Lupin, Nymphadora Tonks, and Alastor Moody, all of whom had earlier been warned by Snape, arrive to defeat the Death Eaters. In the midst of the battle, Sirius punches Lucius, causing him to drop the prophecy. Shortly after Lucius is defeated, Bellatrix strikes him with the Killing Curse, killing him by sending him through the veil. Devastated and infuriated, Harry chases Bellatrix out to the Atrium and hits her with the Cruciatus Curse, downing her. Voldemort's voice whispers in Harry's ear, urging him to give into his hatred of Bellatrix and kill her, but Harry, realising that Voldemort is baiting him, turns to confront him. Voldemort expresses contempt for Harry's "weakness" and tries to kill him, just as Dumbledore arrives via the Floo Network to save Harry. A short but intense battle ensues between Voldemort and Dumbledore, and Bellatrix escapes in the chaos. Dumbledore successfully counters all of Voldemort's best efforts to hurt him and Harry without sustaining a single injury on him and at one point even nearly defeats him by trapping him in water, and after his most powerful series of attacks, that of an extremely destructive torrent of dark energy, which did no effect but to knock Dumbledore off his feet harmlessly, and then countless shards of glass that he fired at Dumbledore, were countered ultimately with little strain on Dumbledore's effort, who stood back up shortly afterwards prepared to continue fighting, the Dark Lord switches tactics by attempting to possess Harry, who manages to overcome his efforts due to Harry's love for his friends and Sirius, as he does defiantly saying that Voldemort is the weak one, as he will never feel true love or friendship. Voldemort exits Harry's body and coldly tells him that he will lose everything. When the Ministry officials arrive, Voldemort disapparates in an attempt to escape unnoticed, but does not succeed; the Ministry officials are able to catch a glimpse of him and Cornelius Fudge is forced to admit that the Dark Lord is indeed back in power and resigns as minister in disgrace. Umbridge is fired from Hogwarts, Lucius Malfoy and the other Death Eaters that participated are sent to Azkaban, and Dumbledore is reinstated as headmaster. Upon their return, Dumbledore and Harry discuss the prophecy, and Harry discovers that in the end, only one can live, and that he and Voldemort are destined to fight each other one last time. Though this revelation is sobering, Harry ends his school year standing by his friends, optimistic about the future because he knows that they have something Voldemort does not: something worth fighting for. Does the Order of the Phoenix have a happy ending?Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (2007)
Despite the gravity of his situation, Harry manages to end the film with a declaration of hope, stating that he and his friends are better off than Voldemort, as they have each other: “Something to fight for”.
What happens at the end of the Phoenix? At the end of Dark Phoenix, Jean Grey uses her immense power to save her friends and the planet from Vuk, the representative of an alien race who had been wiped out by the Phoenix Force, and who hoped to use its power to create a new home for her people.
What does Harry mean at the end of Order of the Phoenix? We guess what Harry means to say is that the values that he and his friends are fighting for—love and friendship and hugs—are far superior to all the terrible things Voldemort is peddling. We definitely agree with him there. Team Order of the Phoenix all the way.
