Central vision is when our eyes focus straight ahead, allowing us to drive, read, and see details sharply. Central vision only covers about three degrees of our visual field, but it allows us to make very important judgments like estimating distance and understanding details in the path ahead.

What is selective seeing in driving?
When we drive, our brains filter visual stimuli to focus our attention on things we need to notice to operate our vehicle safely. Is the vehicle in front of us slowing down? Is the light going to turn yellow? This is called selective attention.
What is a target area range?
target area. section of roadway where the target is located and the area to the left and right of the target area. target area range. space from your vehicle to the target area.
What is it called when you search critical areas in a regular sequence as you drive?
The process of searching critical areas of the traffic environment in a regular sequence is called an orderly visual search pattern.
How far ahead should you look in your path?
In the city/urban area, you should look at least two blocks or two traffic signals ahead. In a suburban area, you should look at least three blocks or three traffic signals ahead. In a rural area, you should look at least a quarter of a mile ahead.
