Why isn’t ‘Big Sky’ on tonight, May 25, 2022?

Big Sky isn’t on tonight with season 3 episode 1 because the finale concluded season 2 on May 19. But don’t fret. The hiatus is only a few months, and fans will catch up with Cassie Dewell (Kylie Bunbury) and Jenny Hoyt (Katheryn Winnick) in Big Sky country before you know it. The series in its place tonight on ABC is a repeat showing of The Rookie Season 4 Episode 19.

‘Big Sky’ Season 3 Episode 1 return date and what time the next new episode will be released

ABC confirmed that Big Sky Season 3 Episode 1 has a return date of early fall 2022, not tonight. The episode will receive the show’s usual 10 p.m. ET time slot. However, Big Sky jumps to a new night this fall — Wednesday. Based on previous fall premieres, our best guess at the Big Sky Season 3 premiere date is Sept. 28, 2022. Meanwhile, two complete seasons are available for viewing currently on Hulu.

‘Big Sky’ Season 3 schedule 

Big Sky Season 3 moves to Wednesday nights at 10 pm ET for the fall of 2022, instead of the typical Thursday evening slot like it would be in tonight. The series steals the slot from A Million Little Things, which won’t return until early 2023.

What happens in ‘Big Sky’ Season 3?

Since Big Sky Season 2 left off without a cliffhanger, it’s hard to guess what might happen in Big Sky Season 3. Luckily, ABC released some news about the upcoming installment of the highway crime drama.

In Big Sky Season 3, Reba McEntire joins the cast as Sunny Brick, the mercurial matriarch of the Brick family, a successful backcountry outfitter with a secret history of missing customers. Viewers might be wondering, “What is a backcountry outfitter?” 

Generally speaking, a backcountry outfitter provides special services for people looking to hunt or fish outdoors. The outfitter offers all the gear needed and guides the individuals in tracking down animals. However, it sounds like Sunny Brick also specializes in the disappearance of her clients.

Supernatural star Jensen Ackles joins the Big Sky Season 3 cast as the new Sheriff Beau Arlen. He became the temporary Sheriff in the Big Sky Season 2 finale at the request of Sheriff Tubb (Patrick Gallagher). Deadline reports that he is a “confident and charming good ol’ boy from Texas.” 

In addition to the new cast regulars, ABC upgraded Jamie-Lynn Sigler to a series regular. Her character, Tonya, was a local server at the diner when her boyfriend went missing. However, throughout season 2, she quickly became an asset to a new drug ring run by the Bhullar family. It sounds like Janina Gavankar also sticks around as Ren, with her brother, Jag (Vinny Chhibber), taking over the family cartel.

Season 3 of the popular crime drama “Big Sky” will premiere on ABC at 8 p.m. Wednesday, September 21. Mystery fans will once again see Jenny Hoyt and Cassie Dewell solving crime and searching for happiness in Lewis and Clark County, Montana.

It looks like season 3 of “Big Sky” will see some cast changes. Reba McEntire will be joining the cast as Sunny Barnes, a hiking trail owner whose property is the site of many of the disappearances and possibly a few murders as well. Jensen Ackles had a guest starring role as the sheriff in season 2, but will become a regular cast member this season. Rosanna Arquette will also be joining the cast in a recurring role as Jenny’s scam artist mother.

Season 3, Episode 1: “Do You Love An Apple” Plot: It’s been a few months of relative peace in Helena, but all that’s about to change when Sunny Barnes and her family set up Sunny Day Excursions just outside of town. From the moment they arrive, things begin to go awry, with Cassie being called in to investigate a missing backpacker and the new sheriff in town, Beau, partnering up with Jenny to track down a murderer on the loose. A mountainous mystery begins to unravel for Cassie Dewell and Jenny Hoyt on the season premiere of “Big Sky: Deadly Trails.”
