In the best news for home décor enthusiasts everywhere, Extreme Makeover: Home Edition is returning to TV in February 2020. The reboot is making its comeback on HGTV, though it originally aired on ABC.
The HGTV website writes that the network will produce 10 episodes, each with a custom reno for a "very deserving family." They will be spotlighting "local heroes and those who give back to their communities despite personal challenges." A perfect example is the firefighter and father of two who will appear in the first episode.
“Extreme Makeover: Home Edition is such an iconic show,” said Kathleen Finch, chief lifestyle brands officer for Discovery, according to Variety. “It’s an emotional story centered around a house. There is real drama, and real stakes around a home being rebuilt.”

The network canceled the Emmy-winning reality show, hosted by Ty Pennington, which patched up holes in the lives of struggling families with tear-jerking hardship stories by renovating their homes over the past nine seasons.

The show, however, was the victim of declining ratings since it's move to Fridays. "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" peaked in 2005 with an average of 16 million viewers a week, but was down to less than nine million by last season, according to E! Online.
"For nine seasons, I was blessed to have been given the opportunity to change lives across the globe with the help of loving communities, generous sponsors, and a cast that has become my second family," interior designer Michael Moloney said in a statement. "I was lucky to have this show as a perpetual reminder of my own blessings, but my work won't stop with the end of the series. It is with a somber heart I close this chapter, but with such excitement I begin the next one."

The show's 200th and final episode will show the team building homes for victims of the devastating tornado that tore through Joplin, Mo., in May. The series finale will air on Jan. 13.
ABC has said, however, that the "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" won't be permanently shelved, and will return with occasional specials.
Pennington, meanwhile, will remain a fixture on the network, having landed a slot on the new day-time series, "The Revolution," which launches Jan. 16.
