I've ordered the 2oz version of these chips a few times before and was happy to see they had a 1oz version (yay portion control), but when I opened the first bag, a horrible burnt oil/rubber tire smell hit me in the face. I opened a few more and same thing.

I got a refund from Amazon but felt I had to call Deep River to let them know that they were sending out bad chips. I spoke to a lovely customer service rep (I forgot her name, sorry!), who apologized and explained what probably happened. Because of improper storing or transportation, the chips re-cooked in their bags from the heat, which caused them to go rancid. She told me that they instruct Amazon on how to store their chips but they couldn't control what happened to their products once they left the Deep River warehouse. She offered to send me a replacement (even though I told her I'd already gotten a full refund from Amazon!). She said they'd ship directly from their warehouse and she could guarantee they wouldn't be rancid. I received them a couple days ago and I'm happy to report that they are indeed just as awesome as they always have been, which is a huge relief because these are my favorite chips of all time.

Amazon, please store these chips properly and instruct your delivery services not to leave them in hot trucks. I have to admit, I'm a little wary of ordering from Amazon during the hotter months and might stock up in the winter. I wish we could order directly from their website but they don't seem to support that as of this writing. They do list another site to order from and I might give that a try (I don't think I can list urls in reviews--just go to the Deep River website and click on the "Find Us" link).

Tl;dr, they haven't changed the formula and they haven't been sending out rancid chips. If you get a bad batch, get a refund from Amazon and try again.

These are expert level potato chips. These chips are not for amateurs. They demand respect and a high level of mindfulness while eating. This is because they are the crispiest kettle chips I've ever had, and upon chewing, each chip splinters into a myriad of glass like shards (tasty, perfectly seasoned shards, mind you), and if you eat them with abandon, without a thought for safety, you will slice and dice your mouth and tongue. These chips really made me up my chip eating game, and I leveled up after the first few bags. Now I have complete mastery over them. Great chips.

I purchased these chips as a gift to my wife for Christmas because she loves these chips and can not find them in North Carolina. She was very excited when she opened the chips and proceeded to eat some immediately. After eating and sharing the chips with other family members we discovered that the bag of chips had a hole in it. Then I went and examined the box of chips and discovered that all of the bags had holes in them. My best guess is that a mouse got into the box through the hole on the side (as shown in the picture) and proceeded to chew through all of the bags. This was probably one of the grossest things I have ever experienced. After speaking with Amazon they would not immediately refund me because this was a 3rd party seller and they told me I have to wait up to 2 weeks to see if I can get my money back. I think the biggest disappointment was Amazon not immediately making things right and refunding my money on the spot. Needless to say, I won't be purchasing food items from Amazon any longer.

I think I've finally found the perfect "kettle-cooked" chips. The Original Sea Salt chips are absolutely the best I've tasted so far (and I think I've tried virtually every chip available either online or in my local supermarkets.

These are crispy, perfect golden color, and, most important to me, NOT TOO SALTY! The perfect amount of sea salt makes these tasty but not "drying. There are only three ingredients used: potatoes, sea salt, and sunflower oil. That's it. No preservatives, nothing else. Yummy!

The case I purchased has a long expiration date -- 3.5 months from the date of purchase gives me enough time to consume these before they exceed their "best buy" date (yes, I know their consumable after that date, but it's nice that these are on the "fresh" side).

I also appreciate that they donate 10% of their profits to organizations that affect them directly.

Will definitely purchase these again! Really tasty, not too much salt -- solid 5 stars. I love them!

I was excited to order this item due to the simple ingredients, a good serving size and positive reviews. It was the perfect snack for my back to school kiddo and I knew what was in it. I was so disappointed when these came today and I began to put a few of these on a plate for my daughter to try, to then see that these are over a week expired!

If you order these - watch out for the expiration date, you don't want to get yourself or your family sick from bad product.

I ordered a replacement with high hopes that this would not be an issue a second time. It is difficult to find a good priced, simple ingredient, controlled serving size snack for kids in the grocery store these days. I will update my review when they come.

UPDATE: They sent another "replacement" box and it took 2 weeks to get here. I opened the box and ALL THE CHIPS ARE EXPIRED WITH THE SAME EXPIRE DATE AS BEFORE. I will never order from this company again and I highly recommend people avoid it.
