Compared to Rue Bennett's somber, muted Euphoria special over the holidays, Jules Vaughn's January 22 episode proved to be just as colorful and complex as she is. Show While there was admittedly a lot to absorb during the hour-long HBO special, there was one important detail many viewers seemed to have missed. In “Jules," the titular character (played Hunter Schafer, who also co-wrote the episode) talks to a therapist (Lauren Weedman) about her relationships — with herself, a guy called "Tyler" she met online (who ended up being a fake character created by the toxic Nate Jacobs, played by Jacob Elordi, and her best friend/soulmate Rue Bennett (Zendaya). Advertisement Throughout the episode, as Jules explains the deep connection she fostered with the imaginary Tyler through lengthy texts, we see her romantic and sexual fantasies played out with him. However, many fans assumed that her imagination cast Nate as Tyler — and granted, you barely see his face, and it looks a hell of a lot like him.
However, that isn't Nate/Elordi (at least, not until the end, but we'll get to that). Tyler is played the by adult film actor Jayden Marcos.
In these scenes, we get to see how "Tyler" looked in Jules' head before she found out the awful truth about his identity. However, she tells her therapist that their bond felt so real to her that even though she now knows he was made up, she's still in love with him. “I’m still in love with Tyler. And I don’t know when that’s going to change,” Jules says to Dr. Nichols. However, at the end of the episode, Jules' passionate sex fantasy with Tyler morphs into something darker and more sinister. While they're making love, she becomes worried that Rue is about to die of an overdose, and as she reaches for Rue, Tyler morphs into the monstrous Nate. He yells, “don’t look at my face!” at her before covering her face with his hand, and a terrified Jules screams. Unfortunately, it can't be a Jules-centered Euphoria episode without Nate popping in to mess everything up. This complicated fantasy-turned-nightmare illustrates Jules' deepest fear: if she focuses too much on the imaginary relationship that consumes her (or any other for that matter), she'll cause unwanted harm to Rue. Nate's appearance also signals that he still has a tight grasp on Jules; hopefully she'll find a way to finally face that demon in the upcoming season 2. We'll take Tyler over Nate any day. From the moment he appeared on screen in Season 1 of Euphoria, viewers knew Nate Jacobs (Jacob Elordi) would be one of the worst characters. Ever. Throughout the teen drama's first season, Nate acts out as a possessive and malicious individual. To become more acquainted with her future classmates before school starts, Kat Hernandez (Barbie Ferreira) invites Jules to a party hosted by college freshman Chris McKay (Algee Smith). Before she goes to the party, Jules decides to meet up at a motel with an older man — turns out it's Nate's dad — to hook up. Once at the party, Nate drunkenly harasses Jules until she leaves with Rue (Zendaya). Article continues below advertisement In the following episode, viewers catch a glimpse into Nate's upbringing. Eleven-year-old Nate discovers his father's collection of self-made tapes displaying him having sex with gay men and trans women. Eventually, Nate finds and steals the video of Jules with his father, and thus, his plan to ruin Jules' life begins. Remember "Tyler," the random jock Jules started texting in Episode 2? Yeah, he turns out to be Nate all along. II," Jules attends the town's carnival and immediately recognizes Nate's father as the man she hooked up with at the motel. Yikes! He eventually approaches Jules, imploring she keep their rendezvous a secret, to which she agrees. Finally, Nate reveals himself to Jules and immediately blackmails her — Nate threatens to report Jules' nude photos to the police as Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM) unless she keeps quiet about her arrangement with his father. If you think it ends there, it doesn't. After Nate gets suspended from school, he blackmails Jules yet again, forcing her to tell the police that she saw Tyler (the real one, not the fake persona) rape Maddy at the summer party. While there, Jules meets TC's roommate Anna, and the two hit it off immediately. Nate wears glitter makeup and begs for forgiveness, all the while acting sexually submissive to her. It's obvious Jules struggles with her romantic feelings for "Tyler" despite knowing he's Nate. During Euphoria's second bridge episode, "F--k Anyone Who's Not a Sea Blob, Part 2: Jules," she reveals to her therapist that she is still in love with "Tyler." Will her feelings continue in Season 2? Or will Jules finally move on and realize her relationship with "Tyler" is a lie? We hope it's the latter.
