Xbox One game took too long to start Reddit

Hello All,

I am unable to play most of my games/apps because I keep getting a took to long too start error (0x8027025a). I have been dealing with this issue for about 5 days now and Xbox Support is telling me to go to the Microsoft Store.

Support could be right, but I had a strong urge that it's a software issue that maybe a developer needs to fix.

I have did everything in this website except for change my location (I refuse): https://windowsreport.com/took-too-long-to-start-xbox-one-error/

Any recommendations? I need to play NBA 2k19 once it drops lol.

Edit: Do not post anything if you want to be negative. I am honestly just looking for help.

If you can get into the management of your games you can select which location to review, if you go into different locations and find files for the same game then that's not great.

Ultimately it could be a hardware issue which would be very very bad but best to check the other options first.

I've been running into this error message a lot lately. At first I thought it was a Borderlands 3 issue because it started when BL3 launched and that was pretty much the only game I was playing for a while, but now I know it is happening with anything we try to open. Overwatch, Fortnite, the Xbox store, MS Rewards all had the same issue today. After a few tries, the game will eventually start up, and then works fine.

Has anyone else been having these issues and have an idea as to what might be causing them and how to fix it?

I have a day 1 Xbox so its plagued with it's fair share of bugs and issues. This one's pretty annoying tho. Often I'll find none of my games will start up due to this issue. None of my apps either. Sometimes even settings won't open and will display the same taking too long to start error.

I've found the easiest and most reliable fix is to factory reset the Xbox keeping the games and apps. From my research this seems to be because sign ins and accounts on the Xbox can get corrupted leading to these sorts of issues.

However, it keeps happening with annoying regularity. I'm now on my 4th factory reset. Is there a more permanent fix for this? Anyone else experiencing the same?

Xbox One game took too long to start Reddit

I’m having this for about two weeks now. From time to time, starting a game stops on the splash screen for a while and then I get the error saying that the game took too long to start. No idea what this is. Is it something known? Restarting the console solves it but it keeps on coming back.

Hey there,

If you're in the Beta, Delta or Omega rings, there is an update releasing today that should fix the behavior you've been encountering. You can check the post with the link to release notes here.

level 1

I had the same problem here, after I unrolled insider program front my xbox, everything works fine as usual.

level 2

When you do this, it starts to download the whole most updated public build to install it? Or it's something pretty quick, that it's already "hidden" in the insider build?

I don't have any issues at all, but I'm really starting to think about to stay safe using a stable version and get back to testes after quarentine.

When that happens do a reset and it should be fine. Full shut down then restart

Console Xbox one x Insider level alpha skip ahead

The issue happen on my both X consoles.

Yes after you unrolled, it will reboot and download a outsider edition update, about 3.9g file size, after long waiting time I got stable version on my both x consoles! I’m a little disappointed about this problem.

Thanks all for the feedback. Will try latest update and if not better, I will unroll

I am still having this issue now. I received the update today, and I still can’t get games to launch off my extended hard drive. This is where most of my games are. I either get error code (0x800705b4) or (0x8027025a). Please help, there are like 300 games on that hard drive. I have done the usual hard resets, reset to factory without losing games, and ordered a new cord for my hard drive (suggested by Twitter). Thank you in advance for any help.

Since last update, I did not experienced any more problems.

Why is my Xbox One saying my games are taking too long to start?

The “Took too long to start” error message can also show up if there are issues with your cache. Usually, the Xbox One app sorts temporary files in the cache and then, those files will help you start the app faster. However, some files in your cache can get corrupted and lead to this issue along with many more errors.
