What county is allendale mi in

Michigan's local government structure can be a bit bewildering. Michigan's 1,242 townships govern the vast majority of Michigan's land area and serve over forty-five percent of Michigan's residents.

Townships were the brainchild of Thomas Jefferson and were created before Michigan became a state. Andrew Jackson's philosophy of direct democracy further shaped the township government structure that survives and thrives today.

Townships embody the values of the "grassroots government." In townships, citizens contribute their talents, skills, and ideas to preserve the quality of life and to deliver important programs and services.

Township officials live in the communities they serve and stay in touch with ever-changing needs. Limited by law in the amount of taxes they can levy, township officials are creative in delivering quality services with the least possible burden to taxpayers.

Efficient. Effective. Accountable. Accessible. Michigan's township governments embody America's great democratic principles.

To preserve public order, to support the constitution of the State of Michigan and to enforce all laws and ordinances of our state, county, and township while protecting the lives, property, and rights of all people in a professional and courteous manner.

General Information

Allendale Charter Township supports community policing efforts in the township in addition to the routine patrol and response to calls for service provided by the Sheriff’s Office Road Patrol. Community Policing deputies work to maintain relationships with township residents, multi-housing managers, and business owners to provide proactive crime prevention and safety education. A partnership with Allendale Public Schools, Allendale Charter Township and the County of Ottawa supports a School Resource Deputy position at Allendale Public Schools. This position also provides service to Allendale Christian School and to the township patrols during non-committed school hours.

Ottawa County Central Dispatch participates in the Smart911 program. Sign up for Smart911 and create your own Safety Profile to give 9-1-1 valuable information about yourself, family members, your home, pets and even vehicles that will automatically display on the 9-1-1 call taker's screen when you make an emergency call. It's private and secure and you control what information is in your profile. These details can save valuable seconds or even minutes during an emergency. More Information
