Ben Affleck may regret his divorce from Jennifer Garner, but the actress was in a great place after finding love again with John Miller.

A source exclusively told Us Weekly in January 2020 that the CaliGroup CEO “very much” wanted to marry the actress after two years together. However, only seven months later, Us confirmed that the pair amicably split.

Following the pair’s brief breakup, a source told Us exclusively in May 2021 that Garner and Miller were officially “back on.”

Garner was previously married to Affleck, from whom she split in 2015 after 10 years of marriage. In a joint statement to Us at the time, the pair said, “After much thought and careful consideration, we have made the difficult decision to divorce. We go forward with love and friendship for one another and a commitment to co-parenting our children whose privacy we ask to be respected during this difficult time. This will be our only comment on this private, family matter. Thank you for understanding.”

The exes share three kids: Violet, Seraphina, and Samuel.

Back in July 2016, a source told Us that Affleck “feels like he can’t live without Jen.”

“If it was up to Ben, they would be together,” the source said.

After the former spouses finalized their divorce in October 2018, Affleck was very vocal about their painful split.

“The biggest regret of my life is this divorce,” the Way Back star told The New York Times in February 2020. “Shame is really toxic. There is no positive by-product of shame. It’s just stewing in a toxic, hideous feeling of low self-worth and self-loathing.”

Affleck, who has been open about his substance abuse struggles, added that his drinking didn’t help the situation.

“What happened was that I started drinking more and more when my marriage was falling apart. This was 2015, 2016,” he told the newspaper. “My drinking, of course, created more marital problems.”

During an appearance on Good Morning America that same month, Affleck said he would “love to go back and change” things about his marriage.

“I have made plenty of mistakes, some big, some small,” he admitted. “I wish I could go back in time and change all kinds of things but I can’t.”

Affleck went on to date Saturday Night Live producer Lindsay Shookus on and off from 2017 to 2019 and was briefly linked to Playboy model Shauna Sexton before sparking a whirlwind romance with Ana de Armas. He married Jennifer Lopez in July 2022.

When It Started

Us broke the news in October 2018 that Garner had been seeing Miller for six months. “Jen brings out the best in John, and he is the happiest he has probably ever been. It’s a loving, healthy relationship,” a source told Us at the time.

John’s Ex

Miller was still legally married to his now ex-wife, Caroline Campbell, when he started seeing Garner. While the former couple, who have two kids, split in June 2011, they got back together in February 2012. They filed divorce papers again in October 2014.

Us exclusively confirmed in November 2018 that Miller and Campbell’s divorce was finalized.

“John and Jen are in similar places in their lives, and can relate to raising kids after a divorce,” a source told Us in August 2019, noting their children come first. “They’re on the same page and understand where things stand.”

They’re in Love

According to multiple sources,  Miller and Garner are in love. “They are stronger than ever,” a source told Us in December 2018. “They are very much in love. … Jen admires John because he is just normal.” 

A second insider added, “[Jennifer] loves that he’s not in the entertainment industry and is just a simple guy.”

Victor Garber Approves

Garber and Garner costarred as the father-daughter duo Sydney and Jack Bristow on Alias from 2001 to 2006. “I think he’s adorable,” Garber, who officiated her wedding to Affleck in Turks and Caicos, told Us exclusively in May 2019. “What’s wonderful is they’re taking their time and they are just enjoying each other’s company. Her priority is her children, that’s it. She’s focused on that. She’s remarkable.”

He added that the pair were a perfect match in September 2019. “Jen is great. I talked to her for an hour today. She’s doing really well. She’s really happy,” he told Us at the time.

How John Feels About Ben

“Jen has been thankful for John’s stable love and support during issues she has faced with [ex-husband Ben Affleck’s] sobriety. He isn’t jealous and understands Jen’s commitment to helping Ben,” an insider told Us in November 2018.

A second source told Us that Miller is a good influence on Affleck. “Jen having a boyfriend has been the best thing to happen to Ben and Jen in a long time,” the source said in August 2019. “Ben has no problem with John. [John’s daughters have had] playdates with Jen and Ben’s kids. Ben totally trusts him.”

“John is the complete opposite of Ben,” one source told Us in August 2019. “Jen feels like she’s finally found a true partner.”

According to another insider, Miller was a “rock” for Garner after Affleck’s October 2019 relapse. “They are very happy, and going strong,” the insider said, noting the actress “knows she can rely on” Miller. “John has been a rock for Jennifer, especially during Ben’s recent relapse.”

Marriage Plans

While their kids have met one another, according to sources, they are still taking things slow. “Jen seems extremely content and blissfully happy,” one source said in January 2020. “John very much wants to marry” her, but “he knows she can’t be rushed.”

Us confirmed in August 2020 that Garner and Miller called it quits on their two-year romance. “He was ready for marriage and she just couldn’t commit,” a source told Us. “They parted on very amicable terms.” The news came after Garner was spotted enjoying a day at the beach with her former Alias costar Bradley Cooper.

After their spring reunion, the pair are heading into fall "really going strong and getting more serious," an insider exclusively told Us in September 2021.

Garner's three children are going to see a lot more of Miller's two daughters, whom he shares with ex-wife Caroline Campbell. "They are spending a lot more time together," the source revealed. "They have been keeping their kids separate from their relationship for a long time, but now plan to incorporate their kids more."

In October 2021, an insider told Us that friends of the couple think an engagement could be coming in the near future. "Jen and John are serious," the source said. "They are totally set on a long-term future together. They’ve taken their time to get this committed." 

Miller's life outside of Hollywood has also been a major bonus for Garner, the insider added. "It’s hard to remember Jen being this happy, and she definitely feels safe and secure with John, who’s unlike anyone else she’s ever dated," the source explained. "He’s hugely successful in his own right, of course, and she loves his mature and measured take on life. Being with someone as down-to-earth and calm as John is exactly what Jen needed in a partner.”

Garner celebrated her 50th birthday with a food drive alongside Miller as well as all of their kids, who met for the first time. "Lots of kids and family were invited, including John’s kids, his parents, his brother and his [brother's] wife," an insider told Us of the event. "It was casual and easy."

Garner and her beau have been "spending more time" with each other's kids, a source exclusively told Us in July 2022, adding that their respective families were "getting quite close" with one another. Miller and the actress still prefer keeping their relationship "very private," the insider noted. "They meet at each other's houses — even for a quick glass of wine or for a low-key dinner date night away from prying eyes."
