Big Tim all the way!

Big Tim was such an inspiring character! He is my favourite person in all of cinema! I bet Big Tim could beat Superman in a fight.

A Dark, Thrilling and Disturbing Anti-drug Film

Requiem for a Dream follows 4 main characters as they go through their own downward spirals due to the usage of drugs. It's a genuinely grim and sometimes uncomfortable movie, with great cinematography, great writing and some compelling acting. Violence is infrequent, but can be graphic and uncomfortable at times. A man's face is splattered with blood after someone is shot right in front of him. One of the characters has a strange arm wound that he injects with dope, which later becomes worse throughout the movie to the point where he gets it amputated (for a brief moment we see a grinder dig into his arm, with some sprays of blood). A shooting occurs when a crowd of people gather round during a drug-related even, but not much blood is seen, although many people die. Language is strong but infrequent. Use of "f#!k", "$h!t", "@$$" and "Christ sake" are heard throughout. Sexual content is pretty strong. Quite a bit of nudity seen in the movie, especially during a scene where a man and a women are in a room both naked. We later see them having sex while the camera spins above them. Breasts and butts are seen. During the final sequence of the movie in some sort of erotic gathering event, fully naked women are seen grinding on men and we soon see two women using a two-tipped dildo. Drugs & alcohol obviously play a huge factor during the movie. Frequent use of dope and occasional use of weed are seen during the movie. Essentially, the drugs that the characters take throughout the movie are all negatively affected by it at the end of the movie. The story puts the use of hard drugs in a very dark and slightly traumatizing light. The characters are seen in a very bad conditions because of this. There's an intense final sequence at the end of the movie. An old lady has a medical procedure being done on her where she's being shocked in the head (ECT procedure). The earlier mentioned erotic gathering also depicts one of the main characters looking rather uncomfortable and psychologically damaged. It's a shocking and very unpleasant scene.

A film that every teen should see

This is a very disturbing, yet a great film. This film teaches that anyone can get addicted to drugs, what kind of disturbing things they might do to get more drugs, all that for a few seconds of euphoric feelings. This film shows how drug addictions ruin our lives very accurately, and the message is simple: do not do drugs, because it is easy to get addicted and extremely hard if not nearly impossible to get clean. I loved this film and I can confidently say that it falls into my Top 3, but I do not think that I am watching this in the near future or ever again. The end of the film hit me the hardest, when it showed the drug-affected characters reach the absolute bottom of a pit with no way to crawl out.

Great film but wayyy to intense

Amazing acting which has an impact on the viewer . It is able the to explore the reality of drug addiction and what it can do to someone, which was perfectly executed. The film is very intense and proceeds to increase in intensity as it goes on . I watched this film when I was quite young and I found one of the last scenes to be overwhelming to the point where I thought I was gonna throw up due to the brutality off it . It was also very depressing and very emotional leading me to feel hollow and quite empty afterwards . Overall , It was a great film but to intense therefore meaning i would never watch it again .

Important, brutally realistic drama transcends expectations

Requiem for a dream is a harrowing, bleak film that explores four individuals whose lives are headed for the worst. Don't let the deceptive nature of this film fool you, for it starts relatively tame and then works up until it reaches a harrowing crescendo that will stick with you long after watching it. The acting in this film is brilliant, and the actors add such realisticness to it that it doesn't feel like a movie, but instead a documentary. This adds to the distressing and depressing nature of the film. This film is extremely intense, and I would like to add emphasis on how intense it is, which is shown through the fact that this is the first 18+ review I've ever given. And I do not give it lightly, as the only other 18+ I would give is a film called Silenced (2011). It doesn't come to much surprise that this film is actually unrated, as it was issued with an NC-17 rating if it were to be rated. All of these factors accumulate to a film that is very powerful, astounding and unforgettable. I find it very surprising that this film only gets 15+ and a half on CSM, as I thought it was extremely grown up and would be completely inappropriate for most 15 and 16-year-olds. I could not imagine many people with the willpower to get through this film that are under 18. This is due to the sex, nudity and drugs present in this film, which I will now cover in my content review as I am done with my movie review. For content I would give this film: 9.5/10 Sex - It is not so much the number of sex scenes in this film, but rather the severity and context of them. There is an implied sex scene, a brief sex scene, a woman starts sleeping with other men for money, and two women have sex with men and thrust into a double-ended dildo. 9/10 Nudity - No male nudity, however, there is full-frontal female nudity and lots of topless female nudity. 6.5/10 Violence - People are shot offscreen and their blood is seen on other characters, a woman stabs a man's hand with a fork with blood coming out, a body is seen being disposed into a dumpster, a man's arm is amputated offscreen however you do see blood splattering briefly, a man has a terribly infected wound on his arm, and there is some fighting. 8/10 Language - About 33 f-words plus sexual references and other milder profanities. 10/10 Themes - Incredibly intense, stressful, distressing, emotionally draining and depressing to watch. 10/10 Drugs - The movie probably includes more drugs than nearly any film ever made as there are constant uses of cocaine, marijuana, amphetamines and speed, and an unbelievable amount of the use of heroin. Overall, this film is certainly not for the faint-hearted and I would highly recommend you to be an adult before watching it. This is due to the end of the movie as this is where, spoiler, Harry's arm is amputated, Ty goes to jail, Merion becomes a prostitute and Sara undergoes electroshock therapy. This is an incredibly bleak ending to a film, and probably one of the grimmest of all time. Furthermore, the scene where Marion becomes a prostitute is incredibly graphic and disturbing as it seems she is doing it against her own will, which is very hard to watch. In conclusion, this film is unbelievably good, but only meant for adults.

very good but can’t ever watch again

it was very disturbing but also a great film to show your children how drugs can truly ruin your life. i watched it when i was 14, and one of the scenes at the end made me feel very sick to my stomach. it was a fantastic movie, but i will never be able to watch it again because it is a very hard movie to get through. i definitely recommend for teens though. it’s a good way for them to never want to do drugs.

Drugs!

Yes, this film is what I call a drug awareness film. Throughout you see all types of drugs being used, abused prescription drugs to Illegal opioids. Full frontal nudity of both genders and sex. Some violence is seen in drug dealings. So language is used, F bombs and tamer. But the point of the films is to show the negative affects of drugs.

Amazing movie, graphic content.

Requiem for a Dream displays the effect of drug use and addiction have on everyday people. This heartbreaking film explores the rapid descent into chaos, and self-destruction; especially Marion, (the love interest of our protagonist) the pain of withdrawal and her heroin cravings become too much for her to handle, and she ends up in a sex-trafficking/ pornography industry. Watch this only if you think you can handle the disturbing content, and make sure you are in the right headspace. This is a movie that you can only really watch once because it is so visceral and horrific, but in this really beautiful way that only Daron Aronofsky can achieve. Although I have a few issues with characters who could've had a more developed personality, the acting here is truly phenomenal and the end scene with Harry Goldfarb on the bed is truly tragic. Definitely recommend, but only if you can handle it. I don't think I'll ever forget this movie..

Is Requiem for a Dream hard to watch?

It was the harrowing Requiem For a Dream, directed by Darren Aronofsky, a movie I found myself convulsing while watching because it was just too hard to watch, too graphic, and too real. It held back no punches. There was no happy ending for any of the characters.
