Re: New York to Vegas by Train 10 years ago Save There is no train station in Las Vegas, which is your first problem! You can go to Los Angeles and take a bus perhaps. LA isn't such a bad place to visit. You have to go via Chicago which takes 18 hours from New York, so a good break of journey could be made there. Chicago to LA takes 36 hours. Al the information you need is on http://www.amtrak.com the website of the USA's national rail system. They have numerous rail passes which may be better value than individual tickets but all the trains must be reserved. Greyhound bus LA to Las Vegas takes 5 or 6 hours. http://www.greyhound.com There are places closer to Las Vegas with stations such as Kingman 100 miles away, but the train gets there just before midnight which is hardly a time to arrive in the wilds of the west!
