We're traveling toHershey at the end of the year. We were hoping to drive to NYC on new years. Is NYC doable to go for just 1 day? We're so close, would love to check out the city again. But, the rates are extremely high for new years, so spending the night is not an option. Do you have any recommendations on where we could stay at a reasonable rate? 2 adults and 2 kids traveling. Thanks in advance.

Budget? # and type of beds? (If the kids are 12+, in hotel-speak that's an adult.)

Where are you going afterNew York City? Returning to Hershey?

Does "on New Years" mean literally January 1st?

It's 3 hours at a minimum from Hershey to New York City. If you're doing this on January 1st you'll have plenty of company on the roads. Maybe 4 hours.

Google maps estimates 3 hours to drive fromHershey to Manhattan, WITHOUT traffic. So for you to do this as a day trip you would have to drive over 6 hours, with the site seeing in between.

What do you mean by ' on new years.' ... does that mean you want to visit on Jan 1? Looking at hotels.com for one night (check in Jan 1, check out Jan 2) for 2 adults and 2 teens I see lots of good options between $150 and $199 and a few under $150 such as Hilton Garden Inn, Times Square for $128; Hampton Inn Times Square North for $121 and Cambria Hotel in Chelsea for $111. All of these rates are before tax and pre-paid/non-refundable. Some have higher rates that are refundable too. And, if your kids are under 12, it could be less.

if you change your arrival date to Jan 2, you have even more options under $130 (pre tax).

Of course, if you are driving, those rates do not include parking.

Happy Planning!

Thanks everyone. The plan was to drive toNYC on 12/31 early in the AM and return prior to midnight. But, I didn't factor in the holiday traffic. So, we will probably have to nix the idea. We need to begin our drive back to Florida on 1/1. Thanks for the feedback!
