Loctite Threadlocker Blue 242 is designed to lock and seal threaded fasteners and prevent loosening from vibration. Ideal for 6-19mm fasteners, this unique formula is great for small motors, mowers, and power equipment. Loctite Threadlocker Blue 242 protects threads and prevents from leaks, rusting, and corrosion and eliminates the need to stock up on expensive lock nuts and washers. Fast and easy to use, this medium-strength threadlocker sets in just 10 minutes and fully cures in 24 hours. Loctite Threadlocker Blue 242 is particularly suited for applications on less active substrates such as stainless steel and plated surfaces, where disassembly is required for servicing.

Mechanical locking devices (such as split ring washers, nylon insert nuts, and serrated tooth washers were invented to solve the common problem of loosening that happens in most threaded assemblies). However, the reality is that they don’t “lock” the assemblies and can’t maintain clamp load. These devices often loosen under vibration, thermal expansion, bending, and/or improper torque.

Threadlockers, or threadlocking adhesives, are the solution to this problem. Applied between two mating threads, these liquid threadlocker adhesives secure nuts, bolts, and threaded fasteners in place. They cure to form a strong bond that prevents loosening, ensuring assemblies retain clamp load over time.

Threaded fasteners, such as bolts and nuts, have a huge role to play in many industries. Their impressive clamp load means they are the ideal fastener for use across a wide range of manufacturing and maintenance applications. However, these types of assemblies can fail over time as they work themselves loose, thanks to vibration, bending, or thermal expansion.

Choose from a range of different strengths and application types and discover LOCTITE® threadlockers that:

  • Reduce downtime
  • Provide strong, long-lasting adhesive performance
  • Reduce the risk of loosening and leaks
  • Lower maintenance and manufacturing costs

Preparation is the easiest step to forget when applying a threadlocker, but it’s arguably the most important for longevity and performance.

In manufacturing, fasteners may come coated with a corrosion inhibitor. These should always be removed using an appropriate aqueous or solvent-based cleaner before application.

If they’re not removed, corrosion inhibitors can impede the chemical reaction that causes threadlockers to turn from a liquid to a solid during the curing process.

In maintenance and repairs, grease, dust and other contaminants can easily get into threads, inhibiting the threadlocker. These should always be cleaned off before applying the adhesive.

Cleaning and prepping effectively allows the threadlocker to achieve optimal mechanical, thermal, and chemical performance.

really though , ive put on locktite , finished doing the work , and sometimes ive rechecked bolts... couldnt be more the 5 or so minutes , and the locktite is allready settin nicely , . do a test , take some random thing (broken part etc) put locktite ona screw or 2 turn 1 after 5 minutes , and the second after 10 minutes , youll get a good gauge of how long it takes to setup..... only thing i can think of , is different metals "may" have presidence over the time table....but i wouldnt think anything dramatic.

How long does threadlocker take to dry

Loctite 242
If we talk about Loctite 242, some numbers are,
assuming steel-steel:
In room temperature (22C), 75% of full strengt after one hour. 100% after 6 hours.

Loctite 242 is quite common for regular screws on RC helis.

For blade holders, wait at least a few hours.
For most other screws an hour or two would probably be OK.

Data for other thread locks are different.
Loctite 243 is an alternative to Loctite 242 for thread locking in RC helis.
Loctite 648 is useful for securing bearings vs. holder and shaft.

Bo

How long does it take blue threadlocker to dry?

Full cure is attainable in 24 hours at room temperature, 22°C (72°F), or 1 hour at 93°C (200°F).

How can I make my thread locker dry faster?

Yes, heat can help achieve faster cure. Typically one can heat cure LOCTITE threadlockers at 125 degrees celsius for 1 hour, or go as low as 66 degrees celsius for 3 hours.

Do you have to wait 24 hours for LOCTITE?

Not Adhering to Curing Time LOCTITE® threadlockers will only be fully cured 24 hours after application. Every threadlocker has a specific curing time, detailed within its technical data sheet (TDS), which you should look to adhere to where possible.

How long does it take for threadlocker red to cure?

Fast and easy to use, this heavy duty, high-strength threadlocker sets in just 10 minutes and fully cures in 24 hours. Loctite Threadlocker Red 271 is a permanent solution for locking and sealing threaded fasteners and is only removable once cured by heating up parts to 500°F (260°C).
