How long for Dysport to work Reddit

Hello friends. Today I got restalyne in my tear troughs and 2 single injections of dysport next to my eye brows for a brow lift. I was wondering when I will see the full results of the brow lift? The office told me the tear troughs could take up to 2 weeks to “settle” so I’m wondering what this all means. They didn’t mention how long til I’d see results for the brow lift. Everything looks the same pretty much except the tear troughs are slightly better. But also, Why does it take so long? what’s the process behind it? Thanks!!

In the last year or so I've noticed a frown line starting to stick in between my eyebrows, and a couple very faint fine lines on my forehead. After doing Accutane a couple years ago I've been so happy with the skin on my face, and I (vainly) want to keep it as nice as possible for as long as possible.

I'm already not big on the sun (hello PNW!) and wear sunscreen most days, have a good routine, etc. but it was obvious that the frown lines were going to be stellar one day, so started researching Botox and preventative Botox. Essentially this is just lower amounts of Botox used to target muscles in order to prevent wrinkles from forming in the first place.

No one ever shares their price online so I started phoning clinics because I wanted to know about how much I needed to save up to get this done. I also mentioned it to my family doctor and she basically lit up! One of the other doctor's husband was a dentist and had just opened up a new practice: as a "new customer" promotion, he was offering it at $6 per unit. Super super deal. I trust all the doctors that work with my GP, so I went ahead and booked an appointment.

Why a dentist? Not only do they specialize in the nerves and muscles of the face in particular, but they also specialize in giving VERY precise injections - the latter reason was actually the one the dentist specified as the reason he had decided to do extra training with Botox in particular.

"Botox" - I've used that word so far, but what this dentist actually used was a newer form of the same toxin called Dysport. Dysport is supposed to spread more easily than Botox meaning that fewer units are required. It's lower cost per unit, and is supposed to result in a lower antibody response (and should therefore last longer). The downside of the way it spreads is that inaccurate injections could potentially cause unintended results elsewhere (say, a droopy eyelid). (This is a really simplified overview of the differences between the two, of course.)

What was the process like? After filling out general forms, I also had to fill out a one-page form specific to his Dysport treatments. It essentially described the process, explained the potential drawbacks (which I had already seen in my research), reminded me to ask any questions that I had, a few other general things, and then I signed.

From there I showed him my main concern (deep frown line between eyebrows) and secondary concern (fine lines on forehead) and that I wanted to prevent them from getting worse.

He then walked me through frowning about a dozen times as well as raising my eyebrows a bunch while he marked certain spots with a white surgical marker. He also spent a while sort of palpating muscles on my forehead and marking those boundaries. From there he explained which areas he would be targeting with more units of Dysport, which he would target with fewer units, and which ones he was avoiding and why. In particular, there were a set of muscles that sort of hold the brow up and taut and paralysing those could result in droopy brows or eyelids, so those weren't being touched at all. I really, really appreciated the detailed explanation, as it also helped me know what to look for in case it wasn't working right.

He then walked me through what to expect:

  1. Small, red welts for a couple of hours at the injection sites. (These looked like the faintest of zits or hives and didn't last the day)

  2. Potentially bruising (none happened for me)

  3. The first 1-3 days would likely not show any results as the Dysport started to work (this was true)

  4. After that, there could be a few days where they felt almost tight (also true)

  5. Results could start to show as early day 3, taking up to 2 weeks to complete (results are definitely there, though I still have a few days until my 2 weeks are up)

He also mentioned that with certain muscles paralyzed, that I may see a different area crease a little sort of midway through my brow. I can tell what he was referencing (sort of the "meat" that rests above the eyebrows which lifts when I raise my eyebrows) but it doesn't look like it's going to be an issue for me at all.

He then started with the injections. It barely stung at all - I've had cysts that hurt worse than the injections. Only in one site higher up on my forehead did I really notice the pain and it was about a 4/10 for a split second. There was no lingering stinging or pain once he was done at each site.

After cleaning up, given post-care instructions (no lying down for the next few hours, no heavy exercise for the day, no facials that day) I was billed for 43 units of Dysport (about $250 after taxes) and booked a follow up appointment for 2 weeks later so that he could review the results and touch up if need be. He said that it should last me until about the end of February but I think I'll only be doing this 2 times a year for now.

The whole thing took about an hour and a half from start to finish.

Currently, I can still make the frown lines show up if I try really hard but the muscles have been inactivated enough that I don't make the expression when, say, I'm weightlifting or stressed out, so I can see the frown lines smoothing out. The skin looks sooooo smooth on my forehead, I'm kind of in love tbh. I have no issues showing emotion on my face, it all just looks more...graceful.

Hope that helps someone else doing research about the process and potential costs. Let me know if you have any questions!

How long does it take for Dysport to kick in?

Individual results vary, but half of the people who receive Dysport injections report a noticeable improvement in the appearance of moderate-to-severe wrinkles and folds within two to three days of treatment. The other half see their desired results four days after treatment or need a follow-up session.

Does Dysport sometimes not work?

Either it was not placed properly in the muscle, not enough was used, or you are immune. Some people require more than others, but actual immunity is extremely rare. In the vast majority of cases, the problem is failure to place the Dysport into the muscle properly . . . the target was missed.

Why does Dysport take so long to work?

Dysport, however, along with similar products Botox and Xeomin, require up to a week before they function at their best. This is because it takes time for the medication to take effect within the muscles and time for the skin to smooth out.
