The Hawaii 50th State Fair is a unique and highly anticipated event on the calendars of both locals and those from the mainland. Unlike other state fairs that run for around one to two weeks, this one runs for a full month. It begins at the end of May and then continues until the end of June. This spring and summer event is, therefore, one that offers plenty of opportunities for people to attend. Show Unlike other state fairs with a core organizing team, this one is, instead, managed by E.K. Fernandez Shows. They have been in charge of organizing shows and rides since 1903. Now, they’ve gotten it down to an art, and you get to reap the rewards. The fair is held at the Aloha Stadium in Hawaii at 99-500 Salt Lake Boulevard in Honolulu. It’s mere meters from ‘Aiea Bay and Pearl Harbor and is close to a range of tourist attractions. If you haven’t been to Honolulu before, or even to Hawaii, then Hawaii 50th State Fair is surely one of many excuses to attend. The State Fair boasts several standout attractions that will appeal to families and individuals alike. There are carnival rides galore, fun games and activities, and highlighted events such as rodeos and musical acts. If it has been some time since you treated the family to a trip away, then now might be your chance. Organize a trip to the Hawaii 50th State Fair, and don’t forget your camera and sunscreen. From its founding in the Territory of Hawaii in 1903 to today, the family-owned kama’āina E. K. Fernandez Shows has brought entertainment experiences to Hawaiʻi for over a century. The Fernandez company is recognized nationally and internationally for its long history in the carnival, fair, and circus industry. Founder, Edwin Kane (E. K.) Fernandez, was known as “The Barnum of the Pacific.” He searched the world for the best acts he could find and brought them to Hawaiʻi, as well as to shows in Hong Kong, Manila, Singapore, Japan, Guam, India, and China. Some of the more well-known acts included the Flying Wallendas and their seven-person aerial pyramid, the wild animal trainer Clyde Beatty, and the famous clown Emmett Kelly. The first elephant at the Honolulu Zoo, Daisy originally came to Hawaiʻi to perform in an E. K. Fernandez show. The company’s first amusement ride was a steam-powered merry-go-round called a Flying Jenny at the Maui County Fair in 1915. Amusement rides have changed tremendously since then. Today’s fairs include an assortment of kiddie rides, family rides, thrill rides, and spectaculars to please everyone in the family. Families, sports teams, churches, schools, and other businesses and organizations can enjoy carnival rides, play games and win prizes, and enjoy tasty fair treats or a delicious plate on the midway.
