Acquisition

  • Obtained from Millicent after choosing to assist her in defeating her sisters, as part of her questline.

Bugs

  • As of Patch 1.03.3, this talisman appears to be bugged, as the buff that is applied to attack power both increases and decreases with successive attacks. That is, in some scenarios, performing an additional attack within a sequence causes attack power to decrease, rather than increase. This can be observed when using the Dagger and Short Sword weapons. This effect can be observed for the Winged Sword Insignia as well.

Elden Ring expands on the classic FromSoftware Soulslike formula with a sprawling open world, filled with deadly bosses, crumbling castles, and powerful items. Players build their strength slowly as they journey through the Lands Between, acquiring levels, weapons, and build-defining Talismans. Talismans offer Elden Ring players a wide variety of useful bonuses, from basic stat upgrades to brand-new combos, and one of the most interesting is the Rotten Winged Sword Insignia.

The Rotten Winged Sword Insignia is one of the hardest Talismans to find in Elden Ring, but also one of the most powerful for certain builds. Players using the Talisman will receive bonus Attack Power for each hit they land beyond the third within a short time frame, which is represented by a red glow around the character.

The fourth hit in a row will be boosted by 6%, while any subsequent strikes will be boosted by 8% and then max out at 13%. This makes the Rotten Winged Sword Insignia a straight upgrade to the regular Winged Sword Insignia, though the two will not stack.

Where to Find the Rotten Winged Sword Insignia in Elden Ring

Elden Ring Rotten Winged Sword Insignia

In order to acquire the Rotten Winged Insignia, players will need to complete Millicent's quest. Millicent is one of Elden Ring's more mysterious NPCs, and her quest will take players all over the map, from Caelid to the Haligtree. For help completing the early stages, players should check out our complete guide to Millicent's quest.

The important part of Millicent's story for obtaining the Rotten Winged Sword Insignia will begin once players have met her at the Prayer Room Grace in Elphael Brace of the Haligtree.

In order to advance, players must defeat the Ulcerated Tree Spirit found in the core of the Haligtree Roots, which will cause two summons signs to appear on the edge of the boss arena. Players must pick the sign to assist Millicent, rather than the one to invade her.

Fighting Millicent's Four Sisters in Elden Ring

Elden Ring Millicent Death Scene

Players who interact with the correct summon sign will be summoned into Millicent's world to fight Millicent's Sisters, four invader-type NPCs with different weapons and fighting styles:

  • Mary, Eldest Sister - Uses wide, sweeping attacks with a Halo Scythe.
  • Maureen, Second Sister - Uses powerful jabs with a Treespear.
  • Amy, Third Sister - Uses fast, aggressive attacks with a pair of Flowing Curved Swords.
  • Polyanna - Uses close-range, piercing attacks with a Blade of Calling.

Players should try to keep the fight out of the pool of Scarlet Rot as much as possible and engage one or two of the sisters at a time to prevent Millicent from being overwhelmed.

After helping her defeat the four sisters, players will find Millicent on the edge of the pool of Scarlet Rot where the fight took place. Simply exhaust her dialogue to finish her quest and obtain the Rotten Winged Sword Insignia Talisman.

Elden Ring is available on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
