Between The Twilight Saga and The Vampire Diaries, the world has had a vampire obsession for many years. However, just when this obsession finally decided to dissipate, an anime adaptation of Kotoyama's Call of the Nightwas announced -- which was met with excitement. The ongoing series, which began serialization in 2019, is an enchanting vampire tale for those who appreciate nighttime.

Following a fourteen-year-old insomniac boy who takes walks alone at night to feel better about himself, Call of the Night has grown a sizable fanbase since the series began. Although the series sometimes relies too much on the clichés of the vampire genre, it still offers something new with its less chaotic premise and soothing narrative. Here's how can new fans dive in.

Call of the Night follows around Kou Yamori who, on the surface, seems like a decent student with good grades. However, when he gets tired of maintaining this facade, he decides to quit school and develops insomnia as a result. He discovers that he feels better when he takes walks alone at night, quickly turning into a routine to clear his mind and fight his anxiety.

On one of these walks, he comes across a free-spirited yet eccentric girl named Nazuna Nanakusa. She immediately points out what's wrong with Kou -- he is still not eager to live his life to the fullest. Finding himself drawn to Nazuna, Kou spends the entire night with her, which ends in her apartment -- with her teeth piercing through his neck.

When Kou finds out that Nazuna is a vampire, the two strike a deal: Nazuna will be able to savor Kou's blood to satisfy her hunger; and Kou will be turned into a vampire. However, he needs to fall in love with her. Even though things do not go as planned, as the awkward Kou and the laid-back Nazuna get to know each other, the readers, too, find themselves in a sparkling bundle of vampires, romance, ecchi, and comedy.
