The 2022 NCAA Tournament represents completely different experiences for Duke's Mike Krzyzewski and Texas Tech's Mark Adams. Coach K, who announced his pending retirement before the start of the 2021-22 college basketball season, could be coaching his final game each time Duke takes the court. That said, he has seen this stage plenty of times before: He also has a record 99 NCAA Tournament victories and is looking for what would be his record 13th Final Four appearance (passing the legendary John Wooden in the process). Adams, meanwhile, is making not only his first NCAA Tournament appearance at age 65, but also is serving as a Division I head coach for the first time in his career (which began in 1981 with Clarendon College). The Blue Devils represent one of the best offensive teams in the country, ranking fourth nationally in adjusted offensive efficiency (120.3, per KenPom) and eighth in points per game (80.3 ppg). The 3-seed Red Raiders rank first in adjusted defensive efficiency (84.4, per KenPom) and eighth in opposing ppg (60.2). To that end, Duke will need to not only capitalize on offensive possessions with the likes of Paolo Banchero (17.0 ppg), Wendell Moore Jr. (13.5) and Mark Williams (11.2), but also maximize second-chance points with rebounds. To that end, they will need to beat Kevin Obanor. The leader of Oral Roberts' 2021 Sweet 16 run has been similarly productive this year, averaging 13 rebounds per game two games through the tournament.
