Do use a soft bristled brush to gently brush your iPhones speaker grilles. Try to use the brush at an angle so youre not forcing the dirt up into the grille, but gently brushing it out. It’s the technique I actually learned to clean the iPhone speaker. A Genius Bar tech showed me.

Basically, use a very sticky tape (I use Tuck Tape) and gently press it into the speaker. Pull off tape and repeat with new piece of tape. Keep going until you have a desired level of clean.

Works great for makeup in the speaker!

According to an Apple Store tech, a brush can bend/damage the contacts inside the Lightning port which may lead to the need to replace the port itself. They will clean it out for free.

I found out because I was having a difficult time using a cable to charge my XS Max (had to fiddle around to find the right spot) and thought I needed to replace the port. I took it to my local Apple Store for that but they told me about their tool and reasoning. Any Genius Bar folks here can confirm or did they just make something up? It didn’t cost me anything other than some time and it works perfectly now.

Edit: I, too, used a small paint brush to clean out the Lightning port until then.

I used some 3M double sided tape to clean mine. It comes in a roll about an inch wide with glossy red anti adhesive on it. I cut a little bit of it and squeezed it into the earpieces depression and kept on doing that until it was all clean! It worked very well.

Not any kind of double sided tape will do though, some come as a foam layer with adhesive strips on both sides, this one was sticky all the way through, like the material itself was all this stretchy, tacky, grey tape.

I don’t know if this is exactly safe or not, but I’ve always used a wooden toothpick to kinda gently scratch it out

I usually do this too. I’m sure it’s fairly safe as long as u don’t shove it in or push with too much force. Just gently scrape along the edges and you should be fine.

Same question, my X has a stupid amount of dust in the speakers with my Spigen case. My case attracts soooooo much dust

I've always had this problem with cases, surprisingly the apple leather case that has no bottom protection has been the best case as far as dust goes

Something like a toothbrush but don’t force the brush into the grills, gently slide the brush from display side to back side of the device to clean these.

Look up "Cyber Clean", that's worth a go. It's a sort of putty that you squish in and pull out and it's meant to take the dirt with it.

As it's a waterproof phone I wonder if rinsing is ok? That's not advice though, just thinking.

I use a microfiber cloth to clean it, and compressed air to get stuff out of the speakers or lightning port.
